Katherine sent this old advertisement, which shows business in the City of Clayton & the Clayton Valley area of Concord.
The ad was designed and distributed sometimes in the late 80s or early 90s.
Most of you probably remember some of those names on the photo.

I really liked Peppino’s and Nature’s Designs! Used to belong to Clayton Valley Athletic Club until the owner started requiring membership dues to be paid a year at a time. Good decision on my part to leave as they closed soon thereafter. Also, I believe Roller World used to be in that location and a maybe a Hardware Store.
I loved peppinos! Great pizzas. Great memories with that Super Mario Arcade machine they had was so cool!
Of course we all remember Peppinos now Pavilion but I guess I’ll be the one to bring up the elephant in the left hand corner of the room. Bronco Billys pizza “the best in town”. I def don’t remember that place
From what I recall the hardware store closed because the floors were starting to sink due to the skatepark that was there previously. I moved to Concord in 1980, right when the skatepark was closing.
Does anybody remember what the name of the establishment in the 70’s that occupied the building on Willow Pass Rd. that has housed Hungry Hunter, Buffet City, and Lin’s buffet?

There was a Highway Patrol office somewhere around there, which later became a very good Italian restaurant, which in turn, moved to Danville.
Mocha Lisa is where I bought our first bag of whole bean, specialty roasted coffee. We have been grinding our own ever since.
Mocha Lisa had amazing strawberry scones that would be served hot. Very good memory! Thanks Mocha Lisa!
Can someone please tell us what all these businesses are now, especially Bronco Billy’s. I knew one in Hayward ( I’m from San Leandro) I love it here in Concord, thanks!!

As far as I can remember Bronco Billies did not do well as Peppinos was far better. And Mocha Lisa was shut down by Starbucks. They moved out of state and opened a BnB. We miss Lisa’s cooking. Best pastry chef I ever knew. Lisa and Neil were the sweetest neighbors we ever had. Miss them and their goofy dog River.
