This Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, the City of Martinez will hold a Downtown Parking Community Workshop regarding implementation of the Downtown Parking Study, including potential options for updating the parking infrastructure and parking rates for downtown Martinez. The City was awarded a $1.27 million grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to fund a comprehensive update to the parking infrastructure in the downtown, including technology enhancements to the meters/kiosks and new wayfinding signage.
The public is invited to attend this Community Workshop in the Council Chamber or via Zoom and voice their opinion on what direction the City should take with this opportunity to invest in the downtown. For more details and the virtual meeting link, please visit www.cityofmartinez.org/events.

Whatever the outcome of this discussion, it will be financially harmful for responsible taxpayers and local business owners.

$1.27M workshop? …what a waste of taxpayer $$ … what they need is multi-story parking structures… parking in the existing lots and on the streets is ridiculos

Yet another reason not to go to Martinez.

The limit used to be 4 hours but a few years ago that limit was cut down to 2 hours. When I had to go to small claims court the later cases would cause the attendees to exceed the parking limit. I wrote the city but nothing was done.

Yes, how they handle parking for their jurors is shameful. This issue should have been fixed by now.

Yoyohop

Get to the courthouse around 7:30am and park behind the jail. Plenty of parking at that time

A former candidate for city council told me the problem was that the city asked the county to build a parking garage of jurors and the county blew them off. Without jurors taking up downtown parking they probably wouldn’t need to even charge for parking downtown.

Doesn’t a “Workshop” sound juvenile? How about debate?

As a person that worked for the county downtown for several years I can tell you the issue with the parking structure is 2 fold. One is a pissing contest between the city and county as who will pay for it and who will have primary use. The other is location. The original location was to be the lot across from the admin building but city and residents bucked because it would impede the view of the marina/shoreline All of this has been going on since the late 80’s.
