Starbucks, which is basically located on every corner in every city, is looking to open their 10th coffee shop in Concord, according to the City of Concord. They want to build at 1935 Diamond Blvd, near the corner of Willow Pass Rd., which is across Diamond from Denny’s, and in the same parking lot as DaVita Kidney Care (formerly Elephant Bar restaurant). The proposed plan is to demolish the existing building and construct a 1,500-square-foot Starbucks with a drive-through facility with room for 16 vehicles. The parking area would have room for 11 vehicles.
Here’s how many Starbucks each city currently has (feel free to double check our numbers, and feel free to add other local cities in the comment section below)
Concord = 9
Clayton = 2
Walnut Creek = 15
Martinez = 5
Pleasant Hill = 7
Lafayette = 3

Lovely. One of the most congested intersections in Concord.
Oh yes! Im too lazy to go to the starbucks in park n shop, and i dont want to drive all the way up clayton rd and go to the starbucks in todos santos. I am so happy we may get a 10th Starbucks coffee shop.
Happy new year claycord! Oh happy day!
Or go to the Veranda shopping center which is about one block away… 🙂
or just over on CCC Bl near Willow Pass
I have no opinion about Starbucks, but that is probably one of the worst locations for access in all of Concord. You can rarely turn left into it because of people that don’t leave space going the opposite direction, and you can only turn right out of there and can rarely in such a short distance get into the left turn lane onto Willow Pass. Most people give up and turn right again only to find they’re in no U-turn hell.
Very, very poor choice for a vehicle heavy retail business.
The last two times I ordered a drink from the nearby shops they were out of dark roast! How does Starbucks run out of dark roast?
Concord needs another traffic clogging drive thru Starbucks like a hole in the head.
Enough is enough! No more Starbucks! There are several close by. Figure something else out.
.
I appreciate that a large corporation is willing to invest their capital to establish another profitable food service land use in the City of Concord
.
Private investment adds to the city’s tax base which funds infrastructure, parks, schools, and other public services.
.
… unlike that hell hole named “Oakland”.
Is this stand alone or does it include Starbucks in safeway stores…
Take a look on street view. Intersection of Willow Pass and Diamond Blvd is going to be a parking lot.
Concord was warned about Treat and Clayton Rd and when first opened traffic was a mess.
.
What the heck, break out the lawn chairs, sit back and watch the fun.
The third picture on https://www.cityfeet.com/cont/listing/1935-diamond-blvd-concord-ca-94520/cs21426124 is interesting. In summary, ten million people per year drive up Diamond Blvd. and then drive back out. No wonder there’s always plenty of traffic in the area. The proposed spot for the Starbucks is a weird property that’s a pain to get to and a pain to leave. It would be better to used for something that gets no traffic and has no employees.
This will more than likely turn out just like the Starbucks at Clayton Road and Treat Boulevard. If this location only has 11 parking spaces, will employees be allowed to park in the parking lot? If employees will be allowed to park in the parking lot then this will leave little to know parking for customers. At certain times of the day the 16 spaces for drive-thru vehicles won’t be enough. It’d be better if this Starbucks were to move further down the road to Sun Valley parking lot, but they wouldn’t receive the walk-in traffic from nearby office buildings that they’re likely counting on, although traffic and parking issues would be alleviated at this alternative location.
The only people likely to be walking in that area are homeless people. My guess is that someone at Starbucks did a search for available locations that mentioned “drive through” and then did not investigate further. This building has remained vacant for about a decade and before that has never had a stable tenant. In hindsight, the owner of the land would have been better off using that area for parking. You’d have two buildings each supported by plenty of parking making the buildings more attractive to potential tenants. Instead, they added a third building with barely any parking which also took parking away from the building on the corner. The third building also likely creates problems for delivery trucks trying to drop stuff off at the building on the corner.
.
The Concord city council likely will rubber stamp an approval. They don’t care if Starbucks burns a bunch of money on this project.
WC Resident,
.
The business which occupied the location the longest was the Big & Tall Store, it occupied this location for over a decade.
.
It’s been many years, but when I worked at the Concord Corporate Center office complex across the street, many employees in the building would walk to The Willows for lunch.
.
You are correct, the Concord City Council will approve this project, just as they approve every project a developer brings to town. They’re always afraid to say “NO” when a business or developer comes to town.
Wonderful! More litter to pick up off the streets and sidewalks.
We need more local and small business coffee shops, like gratitude in the park and shop, pachamama in the sacramento area, or even caffe la scala in walnut creek. I wish we also had more late night coffee shops! Love that caffeine la scala would be open till 9 or 10pm, makes me feel like there’s a place to hang out and study since the public librarys aren’t open late.
Great, now those college grad kids can apply there fancy degrees and apply to work there. This is great news.
