Did everyone see the Tiltrotor over Contra Costa County in the noon hour on Friday? The Tiltrotor is a type of aircraft that can take off, land, and hover like a helicopter, but also has the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft. Video taken in Contra Costa County. (courtesy of Nate)

What do you think UAL930 is doing? It left SFO at 6:01 PM headed for London. Over Idaho it made a U-turn and is diverting back to SFO. Currently it’s over Marin county. It will be a few minutes before we see if it orbits over the ocean to burn fuel or if it’s going to try to land now. It’s a Boeing 777-222(ER). https://www.flightradar24.com/UAL930/38dc30a5 shows the track

Thank you. Something I saw last night was that they dropped from 33k feet to 24k at about the time they turned around. I know that aircraft flying in different directions fly at different flight levels but was surprised to see that much of a drop. Last night I assumed there was a pressurization issue but now think the lower level was designed to burn more fuel on the return leg. The air is thicker and so you burn more fuel per hour. The returning flight made a standard approach and landing at SFO without orbiting. On landing they first used a taxiway to the east rather than turning west towards the gates but never seemed to hold. I think they were waiting for a gate to open up and so took the long way around. I went to sleep and did not pay attention to if they just refueled and then flew to London, probably with a new crew or if that aircraft is now out of service.
