Drivers in Northern California will have something to be extra cheerful about this holiday season. The average price of gasoline in the Golden State has continued to drop for a sixth straight week. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.31, which is three cents lower than a week ago and 28 cents lower than a year ago today. But that trend may not stick around for long, as fuel prices are starting to rise nationally. The average national price per gallon is $3.04, two cents higher than a week ago.
“Lower gas prices are great news for those planning year-end holiday travel,” said AAA Northern California spokesperson Doug Johnson. “With nearly 90 percent of travelers driving to their holiday destinations, that’s a lot of fuel–and a lot of savings.”
Here’s what the average price of self-serve regular gasoline is in each city:
- San Francisco: $4.46
- Oakland: $4.30
- San Jose: $4.26
- Sacramento: $4.21
- Fresno: $4.21
- Stockton: $4.09
Meanwhile, today’s national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station remained at 34 cents. In California, that average cost is 37 cents.
Drivers can find current gas and electric charging prices along their route using AAA Mobile.
National average is $3.04 per gallon and we’re supposed to be happy California’s average PPG is $4.31 ?
That’s a “low” price?
You can get $3.49/gallon on Clayton Road. Be more upset that the 7-11 on Clayton/YVR charges $1 more per gallon than the station across the street.
Low my a$$
Still almost $4 at the cheap places and if you want your car to start needing alot of work,go ahead and buy crappy gas,
I only paid $2.85 at Safeway gas station with my $1.00 discount from our Safeway rewards!

There are a lot of things I miss about California, but not those gasoline taxes. I just paid $2.419/gallon at my Costco.
That’s no gift … Newscum promised in his campaign speeches years ago to hold big oil accountable and bring CA pricing in line with the rest of the country … did he? noooooooo another broken promise to get him votes and too many people have fallen for his lies and broken promises
$2.79 – Florida
I moved from Concord to Virginia in July. When I left Concord, the price for regular at Costco was $4.06/gal. When I got to Virginia the price was $3.39/gal. Today, I paid $2.94/gal at Sunoco, “The Official Gas of NASCAR”. Many gas stations in the area have regular for around $2.85/gal.
Concord Super Stop on Willow Pass has competetive prices. Used to be a Chevron. Last time I filled up was $3.49/gal.
