Scouts BSA held their annual Scouting for Food drive a couple of weeks ago, and the total amount of food collected has been finalized. The scouts from the Golden Gate Area Council collected an impressive amount of donations for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano.
Scouts asked for canned goods, peanut butter, cereal, pancake mix, crackers, rice, beans, pasta, dried fruit or snack bars.
Scouts delivered flyers to thousands of local residents the week before the food drive, and the boys and girls from each Troop, Crew and Pack followed-up by going door-to-door the following weekend to collect the donations.
The Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano has taken in 72,867 pounds of food from the food drive, which will provide about 60,723 meals for the neighbors in our community.
Nice job, Scouts, and thanks to everyone for donating.
Great job! All of that food will feed a lot of hungry people. I help people everyday connect to the food bank, so I know they really appreciate it.
Darn, they missed my street. While my boy was in Scouts (both Cub and Boy) we participated in quite a few of these. It was nice to see the neighbors who left food, though I wish the percentage was higher.
We donated a good sized box of food for them – I was a scout and was really disappointed at all the people that wouldn’t donate – at least a can of soup …. I’ll always donate to the scouts 🙂
