After two years of dedicated service, Chief of Police Richard McEachin has announced his resignation from the City of Clayton Police
Department.

Effective December 19, 2024, Chief McEachin will take on the role of Police Chief for the City of Atwater, California.

During his tenure, Chief McEachin has led the Clayton Police Department with distinction.

His new position will see him overseeing the Atwater Police Department, a larger force with 31 sworn officers and 13 non-sworn administrative personnel. This transition marks a significant step forward in his law enforcement career as he returns to the California Central Valley, where he resides.

So he lived nowhere near the community he served or represented. Makes no sense

I actually agree! A police chief should live very close, if not in, the community they serve.
And why do they need some outside research firm to find a new chief. Why don’t just they look towards the Concord Police Department?
Concord has great cops!

Concord cops are woke because their superior’s are woke and that crap runs downhill, no thanks..

Because politicians love to waste taxpayer dollars on consultants and recruiting firms. I work for an Alameda County police agency and our city hires consultants for EVERYTHING. It’s asinine.

Why does Clayton even have its own PD? Would save more money and have more experienced, “real” cops by contracting with CoCo SO.

CCCSO and real cops description doesn’t go together..of course you are kidding..

Clayton relied on Contra Costa’s Sheriff’s department for the first 10 years of its existence. It didn’t go well. Fast forward to today’s overburdened and underfunded CCCSO, it would unlikely go any better than before.
As for the real cops business, for 50 years the real law enforcement officers of the Clayton Police Dept have been serving the community and doing a fine job.
