The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we will ask you a question or provide a topic, and you will talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
Denny’s announced this week they plan to close about 150 underperforming restaurants.
QUESTION: When was the last time you went to Denny’s? And also – what’s your favorite spot for breakfast if you go out to eat?
Talk about it….
Oh Hummm, … about 20 years ago since we visited Denny’s.
We have a few breakfast places we like, … depends on what sounds taste to us.
Baked Goods or Omelet(s), … but only once a month for breakfast out.
A year ago for the steak and egg. Right now nation is my new favorite breakfast spot
Buttercup – Pearl is always a pleasure! And the food is good too!
Denny’s is OK, I have no complaints….
Probably in the late 80s, the one in Antioch.
I used to belong to a club that threw a lot of
parties on the weekends, and afterward,
around 1 or 2 am, some of us would head
over to Denny’s for breakfast. I don’t go to
chain restaurants too much anymore, I prefer
private owned independent restaurants, but
Denny’s had some pretty good Denver
omelettes. One of my favorite spots for
breakfast is a little restaurant in Larkspur
or Mill Valley, I forget which, but they make killer
eggs Benedict.
Within the last year. When I visit my daughter in Pasadena, when I drive back to the Bay Area, I usually stop in Santa Clarita, which is 45 minutes from Pasadena, I stop for a breakfast, there’s a Denny’s and IHOP right off the I5, so I stop at and have a nice big breakfast that will sustain me for most of my drive. If I remember correctly last time (in late July) IHOP was closed for remodel so I went to Denny’s. I have tried them both, trying to see which is best, it is a toss up. I love breakfast and brunch and usually like places that are not a chain, but I don’t know the area there, and I don’t want to veer off too far from the highway. I rarely eat breakfast out locally, as I like to make my own breakfast. I have been to Sugar Plum a few times and it is definitely better than both Denny’s and IHOP. There’s a place in Novato, where I have met girlfriends for brunch a few times “Toast’s”, that is very good, they have eggs benedict and other good choices. One of my girlfriend owns a mobil vacation home in Napa, right by St. Helena, and we went for brunch ones, but I forgot the name, had my favorites eggs benedict, again.
Hanne,
That’s where we always stopped on the way back from Disneyland – IHOP in Santa Clarita!
Good memories, there!
Have never been to a Denny’s nor would I ever want to go in the future.
Giant Chef in Pleasant Hill tops em all for breakfast and burgers.
Denny’s uses TAP water for their coffee.and too much grease in their food.
Maybe 4 yrs ago…. my go to – Hick’ry Pit (previously Emil’s) on Main St WC across from Las Lomas HS
Tuesday, I went to the new Denny’s in Brentwood.
Food & service were both good & just like all the other places suffering from the Deminflation they’ve gotten to be more expensive, but $3.79 for a cup of coffee?
I can’t remember the exact date, but I think it was in the mid-1970s.
I seldom eat out anymore.
Love Denny’s….Grand Slam!…. tough to beat sunny side up. I remember when it was $3.99
About three months ago. Breakfast out is rare. Last was Buttercup.
My wife and I go to Denny’s for lunch one day a week. I also meet friends for breakfast on another day. The food is decent and significantly cheaper than at many other places we go to. Service is usually excellent at my local Denny’s.
Approximately 1977.
I like the Sunrise Bistro and Jacks for breakfast. Katy’s Kreek is good also and is the local LE hangout so very safe.
I can’t remember last time I went to Dennys. Decades probably.
Hotel Matador in Matador Texas. Giant, almost Michelin level breakfast every day at 7:00.
And completely different every morning.
All I wanted to do is go back to bed after, but duty called.
Ladies that run it sew pistol hotels for ladies purses in their spare time.
And yes, they’re armed, but discreet. ❤️🇺🇸

It’s been several years since I’ve gone on my birthday to get a free breakfast slam at Denny’s. My favorite place to get breakfast is Min’s Kitchen (the Irish Benedict… so good!).
Last time we went the waitress was obviously high as a kite and disappeared for impressive periods of time. Waited 70 minutes for our food. Food was okay. The person I was with who was paying insisted on tipping 25% because the waitress “was so nice.” Waitress made $12 for 4 minutes of making small talk while high and doing her job horribly. Pretty surreal experience.
No one rational would choose to eat out if they can just make their own food. The chefs don’t wash their hands.
The craziest thing is that when you go to really high end restaurants, the server still has a 50% chance of being rude and/or barely speaking English, despite how much they stand to make.
Maybe 15 years ago, perhaps longer. We do not go out for breakfast anymore, last time was maybe 10 years ago at the Waffle place by Kohl’s in PH. I have a hard time paying so much to eat some eggs, and cut out eating pancakes/waffles due to, well, challenging the integrity of any chair I sit on.
Years since I’ve been in a Denney’s. As for breakfast in Claycord, nothng beats the old Millie’s Kitchen when Millie herself ran the show. Other than that Sugar Plum was a favorite. Where I’m at now, a little place called the Cracker Box can’t be beat for a real breakfast. The enchilada omelette is the best in the west. For a nibbley breakfast like a bagel with hummus, bagewich, giant cinnamon roll and coffee, Comma Coffee is fabulous. It’s a great funky homey cafe’
Back when I was a computer guy, we would sometimes pull an all-nighter to install new equipment. About 2am, we would get to a break to allow the new disk drives to format. In Knoxville, that meant a trip to the Waffle House. In Oakland, it was Denny’s near Jack London Square. Either was fine. I’ll still sometimes stop at a Denny’s while traveling.
Now, we have Cracker Barrels all over the place. If I’m in a hurry, then it’s Waffle House. And if we have out-of-town guests, we work in a trip to the Loveless Cafe.
