The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

QUESTION: All are within a few hours drive of Bay Area residents, so which one do you prefer if you had to take a day trip? The Beach, the Mountains or the Desert?

Mountains. I can be alone and I don’t have to listen to everyone talk about politics and why they are right. Yeah, politicians have your best interests in their minds. Sorry, alone in the mountains with no electronics.

@Big A ~
Agree, …Mountains & no electronics is so peaceful.
A walk on a sandy beach barefooted with only a few people is also pleasant for me.

Depends on the time of year. During the winter months, the desert is nice. I can enjoy Death Valley, and the Mojave Desert. The Great Basin Desert in Nevada isn’t as hot and can be enjoyed anytime of the year. They are so quiet and peaceful, and there won’t be anybody around for miles. The mountains are good all year, sun, or snow. The ocean beach is OK for a day visit, to walk around on the sand, enjoying the day. Lake and river beaches are more for the folks that enjoy sunbathing with a little swimming thrown in, but lying around under the sun doing nothing but burning isn’t my idea of fun, I like to keep moving. If I had a boat, spending a day on Lake Shasta would be fun.

Toss up between the coast and mountains. I’ve been to Joshua Tree Park, and to the desert in Arizona, it is different and I liked it, but most of the time it is too hot to enjoy being outside. Here in the Bay Area, I have hiked the Point Reyes shore, The Dip Sea Trail to Stinson Beach, camped on the Sonoma Coast Line, and also in Mendocino, also camped by Big Sur and have been by car to Carmel and all the way down to Morro Bay.
I have hiked Tahoe several times, also gone cross country skiing there, have hiked in Yosemite more than 10 times, been to Mt. Shasta. Spend many fall weekends in the foothills, Sonora, Columbia other littel town there.
When I lived in Benicia I had a view of the water from every room in my condo, really loved that, suppose that is the viking in me.

Mountains, but there should be a lake with fish in it nearby.
