One person died and another was injured when a car crashed into a power pole in Walnut Creek early Thursday morning, according to police.

Officers responded at 1:07 a.m. to the crash reported on Ygnacio Valley Road between Civic Drive and North Broadway and arrived to find that the driver had been ejected from the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive, Walnut Creek police said. The families of accident victims may hire a Milwaukee wrongful death lawyer to help them file a lawsuit.

The crash caused a power outage but PG&E crews responded and were able to restore power quickly, police said.

Ygnacio Valley Road is expected to remain closed for most of the day, according to police.

Speed kills, terrible.

I think the alcohol probably was a contributing factor here as well.

I think the stopping rather abruptly probably had something to do with it to0.

I see only one car, obviously took out a utility pole. Looks like the pole landed on the driver’s side. Wires must be down across the street. Very sad that someone died.

“Ygancio”..might want to fix the title.

Very sad. As a wise old Father told his 6 children back in the day. “Nothing good happens after midnight”. We were always home by that time, unless we had a really good excuse.

Sad indeed, but I have to disagree about nothing good happens after midnight. Some of my fondest memories are of events that happened in the wee hours of the morning.

Obvious from the condition of the vehicle that excessive speed was involved. Ejection of occupant of vehicle means no seat belt being worn. Alcohol involved means bad judgement. Though I’m so sorry about the young driver being deceased, I’m thankful that other (innocent) vehicles weren’t involved.

You think the police will hold a séance to get their statement?

Very sad to hear of this accident, horrible to hear that my daughter knew the driver. They worked together at a part time job and my daughter had told me many times what a nice person she was. We are heartbroken.

So very sad to hear this. So young! My heart goes out to the family and friends of this young lady. I think of all the dangerous things I did at a young age and am thankful they didn’t result in tragedy. May she rest in peace

I too did many things unthinkable by today’s standards but driving drunk at twice the speed limit and not wearing a seatbelt all at the same time was not one of them. Saddest part is this accident was preventable.
