Woman Who Embezzled More Than $900,000 Reaches Plea Agreement

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said Monday it reached a plea agreement with a woman charged with identity theft, money laundering, grand theft, tax evasion, and false impersonation. Angela Fae Brown, 53, of Olivehurst in Yuba County, was charged in April 2024 on a six-count felony complaint with a special allegation of aggravated white-collar crime.

While working as an accountant, Brown embezzled more than $900,000 from her employer, a paver company in Richmond, between September 2017 and November 2022.

On June 14, Brown accepted a negotiated disposition where she pled guilty to an amended 12-count complaint.

To fulfill the terms of the plea, the court will suspend her 10-year prison term for three years and place her on formal probation so she can seek and maintain employment to pay restitution. Assets that Brown accumulated during the period she was embezzling from her employer will be liquidated. The funds from the sale of those assets will be applied to restitution payments; $907,087.00 will go to the victim, and $61,860.10 to the Franchise Tax Board of California.

Any violations of the terms of the plea agreement mean that Brown could be subject to the state prison system to serve the remainder of her sentence.

The plea deal is a slap on the wrist.

She should do hard time.

The lack of mugshot likely explains the minimal sentence.

I didn’t know the state collected tax on embezzled money. I guess the state considers stolen money earned income, but it was the victim’s earned income she stole, so when the victim files their income tax, the state will collect twice. Will Uncle Sam go after her too?

So they will “leave her out of jail so she can be employed to continue to pay restitution”. Gee,
she should get a state- job with the Gavin Newdom administration.

If she pays the money back, she doesn’t go to jail? What a sweetheart deal for her. What if she doesn’t pay it all back? Who would ever hire her?
