I wish Newhall Park would not allow bike riders to ride on the pathways of the park. I’m not referring to children or families out on bikes. I mean the adult riders who go way too fast for that area. These riders are always decked out in plenty of PPE such as helmets, gloves, vests etc. to ensure their safety – but the hell with anyone that gets in their way. The gravel paths are fairly narrow and there are many blind curves. Most of the people who use the walking paths are just out for a leisurely stroll, walking their dog or their child in a stroller. There are also many elderly people who walk the park for fresh air and exercise. Oddly enough, you don’t hear a bicycle approaching from behind until the rider is close enough to shout – “on your left” – which is startling. Many people walk while wearing headphones and wouldn’t hear the bike or rider at all. There are bike lanes on Ayers Rd and Turtle Creek Rd which go around the outside of the park and they can go as fast as they want over there. I feel it’s an accident waiting to happen if something isn’t done.
Why put yourself in harms way?There is plenty of places to walk in that area that the bicyclist dont ride on.Theres no rule that will ever happen.Its not as if they have insurance to cover you if you got hit.Why take a chance because you feel entitled?They think the walkers are the fools.
Sounds like you are admitting the bicyclists are creating a safety issue and maybe they SHOULD be required to carry insurance the same way cars drivers do.

Nobody said you cant wear a helmet etc,to be safer…..it’s 2024.
Followed an older guy driving on Ygnacio with his windows down smoking a cigarette. Sure enough, he flipped the butt on the road and continued driving. Was able to catch him at a stop light and let him know what I thought of him and his reckless and dangerous action.
With all the fires now going on in Calif, THINK.

This season after insurance companies started pulling out of CA large numbers fire fighting aircraft are being used, greater response than in years past.
Tomato plants, what have you tried to improve plant yield
and what kind of results did you have?

In our garden have used concrete wire made into a circular cage for decades. This year built frame over part of the garden using 2x4x12 foot boards left over from a project.. Two rows of four verticals, spaced five foot apart in the row. Rows spaced ten feet apart. Put four twelve footers across ten foot gaps and braced each of the rows, kinda surprised it came out so sturdy. Using polypropylene string to train pole beans up to 12′ cross pieces then horizontal strings to create shade between rows to shade pepper plants and experiment with tomato branching described below using tomato clips that grab string and go around tomato stem to hold it up.

From a few years back Charles Wilber’s cherry tomato plant reached 28 ft. 7 in. tall.
Four plants produced 1,368 lbs. of tomatoes to earn a cover picture on the Guinness Book of Records.

His ideal plant had 18 branches.
The lower 6 branches are allowed to split once for a total of 12 branches.
The top two branches are allowed to split three ways each for a total of 6 branches.
As each branch develops, it is led to the outside of the cage and trained to grow upward.
Suckers that grow on the 18 branches should be pinched off if the branch is weak.
He advocates pinching suckers off before they reach 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 in. long.
