One person died in a crash on southbound Highway 242 south of Clayton Road in Concord early Sunday morning, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

A burgundy vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 242 south of Clayton Road in the left lane around 5:22 a.m. when it hit a pedestrian in the roadway, according to Dan Gilmore, public information officer for Contra Costa CHP.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and the Tesla driver was not injured, the CHP said.

The crash is still under investigation and anyone who saw the incident or has any information is asked to contact CHP Contra Costa in Martinez at (925) 646-4980 or email contact information to 320investigations@chp.ca.gov to be contacted by the investigating officer.

Pedestrians on the freeway is against the law. Yet I see them walking and on bikes. Just another result of homeless and lawless democrat California. We used to have it good here, always a little expensive but good.

I’m one of those homeless, and I work and pay taxes, the person who starts the fire is in need of mental help, no resources, hope none of you or your families ever experience homelessness, i

There’s a large homeless population in that area, probably on drugs or drunk and didn’t even know where he was…. when will our political “leaders” get the guts to clean this situation up? This and all the fires the homeless cause… waste of our tax dollars

L.A. is building a luxury high-rise apartment building (with our tax dollars) to house the homeless

Since we don’t have all the facts, allow me to be the first to jump to conclusions and blame the self-driving Tesla due to a defective battery.

I feel sorry for the driver that hit him. What was he doing on the freeway anyway? I see a disheveled, possibly stoned, dirty guy standing on the divider at Clayton and Market St. every day as I get on the freeway.

The only real question is why the pedestrian was in the roadway at all? Suicide? Too high?
We’ll likely never know.
