The race to replace longtime Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover likely isn’t over yet.
With all precincts reporting in, Antioch City Councilmember Mike Barbanica was ahead with just over 41% of the vote (8,007 votes). Pittsburg City Councilmember Shanelle Scales-Preston was in second, with just over 33% (6,468 votes).
Pittsburg City Councilmember Jelani Killings garnered 2,792 votes, with insurance agent Iztaccuauhtli Hector Gonzalez rounding out the field with 2,147 votes.
Since no candidate apparently received more than 50% of the vote, Barbanica and Scales-Preston are likely headed to a November runoff.
The election results aren’t official yet.
Scales-Preston has served for more than two decades as a top aide to Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, and his predecessor, George Miller, both of whom supported her. She has also been endorsed by Glover and multiple Contra Costa labor unions.
Barbanica is a former Pittsburg police officer. He’s also a real estate broker.
Much of his support comes from police officers’ associations and law enforcement officials, including Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingston.
“Scales-Preston has served for more than two decades as a top aide to Rep. Mark De Saulnier, D-Concord, and his predecessor, George Miller, both of whom supported her. She has also been endorsed by Glover and multiple Contra Costa labor unions.”
Ringing Endorsements, all the more reason to vote for her (Sarcasm)
Unfortunately money talks.
Why would anybody vote for a product of failure? both George Miller & Mark De Saulnier have been & were an absolute train wreck for our community. What have they done for us? Nothing we voted them in for…
replace him with a bobblehead, nobody would notice the difference
Boy is it sure a race! We cannot replace Federal Glover fast enough.
