By Tony Hicks –
A man identifying himself as “Scottie” and wearing sunglasses, a hat and a “White Power” shirt emblazoned with a swastika verbally attacked the Walnut Creek City Council on Tuesday night for shutting down phone-in and Zoom public commentary last year.
He pointed at City Councilmember Kevin Wilk, who is Jewish, at one point while speaking. He also threatening another Holocaust and “Jew expulsion.” He ended his speech by performing the Nazi salute and saying “Heil Hitler.”
“I came here to discuss the attack on free speech and our First Amendment rights being stripped away by Jewish supremacists,” “Scottie” said. “You shut down Zoom comments at the behest of the (Anti-Defamation League) because some Jews’ feelings got hurt. I’d like to remind you there is no hate speech exception to the First Amendment and cutting off comments for speech you disagree with, that’s in direct violation of the oath of office that you all swore to uphold. So I’m here today.”
Walnut Creek was the first of many Bay Area cities last year to stop using phone-in and Zoom public comments because of a spate of antisemitic callers using the time to push their propaganda.
In all cases, cities found the law requires cities to only allow in-person public comment. Zoom and phone calls aren’t covered under current law.
“Scottie” continued, saying “Think we’re scared? To show up. Show our face and call you out in person? Right there. You just shut me down. I would file a (Section) 1983 civil rights lawsuit so fast that you might as well break out the city’s checkbook and prepare to settle. Because you and I both know that we will win. You people disgust me and if you think following orders from those (slur) at the ADL will save you from being held accountable, you’re in for a rude awakening,”
He also said, “It’s only a matter of time before yet another inevitable Jew expulsion, Whites are awoken. And if these (slur) don’t realize that their time is very limited in our lands. And we might just have a Holocaust for real this time.”
He ended by saying “(Expletive) all you Jews … Heil Hitler. White (expletive) power.”
The council seemed stunned following the speech. Wilk spoke up, saying, “We live in a free country and there is free speech and that means we have to listen to these full and heinous comments, like (those) we just listened to. And I would like to apologize on behalf of the City Council and anybody that had to hear that horrible, horrible speech. This is America. Unfortunately, we do have laws that protect people from saying anything.”
Wilk said Wednesday morning he knows who the man really is, and his name isn’t Scottie.
“Freedom of speech means that even hate speech is allowed. But we don’t have to be silent to that hate,” Wilk said. “We need to stand up and speak out against it. This person is not from Walnut Creek, we know he’s from Modesto. This kind of hate is an attack on all of us. This time it’s antisemitism, but next time it may be directed at another marginalized community. Everyone should feel offended.”
“I will always stand up against hate speech against any community, wherever that exists,” Wilk said.
“That’s my commitment as an elected leader, and as a member of our civil society.”
What a jack a$$. This is what free speech is. You’re allowed to be a jack a$$. What do you want to bet they are doing everything to shut down free speech in response? Therefore making his argument valid. It’s to bad ignorance like this exists. Every group of people has been marginalized by democrat race baiters. This was their plan to create divided camps of people fighting against each other. Are you guys happy now? There is no reason to attack someone’s race or religion when when addressing government. They deserve to hear us with what they are doing. Almost feels like a fake dude. There’s no nazi’s groups in the bay area. Someone should find out who this guy is to verify he exists and he’s really about that life. Too many hoaxes these days.
….heard LE is involved – name isn’t really Scotty, lives in Modesto – already on the FBI radar …. need to protect yourself from this kind of activity.. you don’t know how serious it can get…
Just because someone says something you don’t like doesn’t make it racist.
.
Your “straight white” hate is showing. You sound really upset. Yeah democrats divide people up regularly. All kinds of different groups and subgroups of subgroups. You literally just did it. You are making my argument for me. Thank you come again
Interestingly, you are calling others full of hate when your comment reeks of it. But, that is the left for you!
Where she go?
Some real weirdos out there, wow.
Free seech is one thing but that’s too personal … hope K Wilk is taking this seriously and taking steps to ensure his and his family’s safety. Scotty’s picture was on Nextdoor but looks to be taken down now… one comment said he was from Modesto and Scotty wasn’t his real name …. he wanted attention? I’m sure he’s getting plenty of LE attention now….
White person here. We don’t claim this guy. What a disgusting embarrassment
The problem is it wasnt a white guy ,no white guy would do that.
By now Scottie has probably beamed himself back on board the Enterprise
I disagree with the comments of Walnut Creek City Councilmember Kevin Wilk!!! The United States Constitution is not UNFORTUNATE!!! The Bill of Rights is not UNFORTUNATE!!! The First Amendment is not UNFORTUNATE!!! The Freedom of Speech is not UNFORTUNATE!!! Walnut Creek City Councilmember Kevin Wilk’s Oath of Office is not UNFORTUNATE!!! What is UNFORTUNATE, is that Walnut Creek City Councilmember Kevin Wilk finds living up to his Oath of Office as UNFORTUNATE!!! It’s also extremely UNFORTUNATE that Councilmember Kevin Wilk believes “This is America. Unfortunately, we do have laws that protect people from saying anything.” Councilmember Kevin Wilk finds speech he has to listen to and doesn’t agree with as “UNFORTUNATE!!!” Councilmember Kevin Wilk doesn’t believe Freedom of Speech exists to protect the speech one disagrees with, he finds PROTECTED SPEECH that he disagrees with as UNFORTUNATE, he believes only speech he agrees with is worthy of being heard!!! Councilmember Kevin Wilk and all Councilmembers that agree with him should apologize to their constituents for forcing the public to listen to all of the worthless bloviating speech they spout week after week!!!
.
There are lawsuits going on all over the country because of Mayor’s trying to enforce “Rules of Decorum” to their personal beliefs, interpretations, and definitions. Are you paying attention Mayor Edi Birsan of the City of Concord???
Nice story..now tell the truth.
Please enlighten us as to what happened at this council meeting. You seem to know, but strangely won’t say what. Hmm…
Was his last name smollett?
Benjamin Franklin on freedom of speech: “Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government; when this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved, and tyranny is erected on its ruins. Republics…derive their strength and vigor from a popular examination into the action of the magistrates.”
Do not allow this one speaker’s speech to infringe on the general rights of free speech or you will quickly find elected officials using it as a reason to shut down any speech in opposition to themselves. In fact, you may find some elected officials and their allies sending in actors to say abhorrent things just so they will have an excuse to limit all public speech. Remember when Lennar sent in actors and church officials and school officials they paid off to advocate in front of the Concord City Council on its behalf? Don’t think for a minute that Lennar didn’t learn that from corrupt politicians.
Grow up, Walnut Creek. This guy is getting a kick out of watching you clutch your pearls and cry victim. First take actions to stay safe such as having a police officer attend meetings and patrol the parking lot or escort councilmembers to their cars. If this person is saying these threatening things when he is not speaking at public comment, then he is subject to a completely different set of rules depending on what is going on – he can’t harass or stalk people or any other kind of similar behavior. There are laws for that and the police can enforce them. Stop giving this person attention at the meetings – no more alarmist stories in the paper, no more hand wringing and speeches during the meetings. Simply make a brief statement the council doesn’t agree with the speaker or whatever and move on; he is thriving on your reactions.
Anyway, when you limit freedom of speech, you don’t take away the person’s hatred or negativity or whatever. It merely gets hidden so you don’t know what is going on. Now everyone knows who this is and can watch out for him accordingly.
Freedom isn’t easy. Our constitution came at a great price by people who lived under tyranny. Protecting your civil rights isn’t easy. You know: “It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.” (Jimmy Dugan, A League of Their Own)
Scotty’s earlier comments were more measured, but just as maligned by the media. So what’s it matter if he escalates?
He seems to be trolling for a 1st Amendment audit here. And if they shut him down, I hope he does sue. Politicians like Wilk need to know that they don’t get special privileges for ancestral victimhood.
Amazing how this guy shows up every meeting and they can never seem to locate him?
Locate him for what?
Locate him for what? He’s an idiot expressing himself. What about it?
John Spartan, you are fined one credit, you have violated the verbal morality statute …………
Guess I wont be needing that toilet paper
I’ve long said the problem with free speech is there isn’t enough accountability for exercising it. Every right we have comes with one or more responsibilities too. People forget that, a lot.
