UPDATE: Antioch Library Will Reopen On Tuesday With Armed Security

The Antioch Library, closed because crime made it too dangerous for users and staff, will reopen Tuesday with additional security, the Contra Costa County Library announced.

The decision came Saturday, one day after the library said it would be closed until further notice, citing repeated incidents that threatened the safety and security of patrons and staff.

“After consultation with the county administrator’s office and county counsel, the library was able to negotiate an emergency contract to provide a private armed security guard and patrol car to monitor the parking lot and library property,” the library said in a statement.

The officer will supplement a private security officer already stationed inside the library during regular hours.

The library is also working with Contra Costa Public Works to reinforce a security fence and upgrade the security camera system,” County Librarian Alison McKee said.

“The library will be in close contact with the City of Antioch about how they can best support the safety of library patrons, staff and the surrounding neighborhood,” McKee said.

The library will reopen at 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

I guess someone did not like the national attention during an election year.

What a wonderful world we live in! Needing armed security to go to the library. Good ol Cali politics for ya.

Need a turret mounted 50 cal on the rooftop of the Library. That’ll be a good start. Then, one for each home.

Just wait until some homeless lunatic starts beating a security guard and the guard uses his firearm to save his life and possibly others by shooting and killing the useless rat. BLM, Diana Becton, and John Burris will be splashing the media will elementary school pics of junior and what a sweet kid he was and why did the guard have to kill this poor soul. The family who wanted nothing to do with this Loser for years will suddenly be foaming at the mouth when learning about a lawsuit against the city/county.

Oh great, more taxpayer money down the drain. When one of these guards are forced to shoot one of the deadbeats the BLM crowd will be crying that he was a good kid

Another instance of antioch’s decline from healthy vibrant city of the 1970s and 1980s to a woke cesspool.
July of last year

2023 finished off with 10 murders, 436 Aggravated Assault, 559 Burglaries, 1029 Simple Assault, 1,245 Motor Vehicle Thefts.
.
Then there’s a woke majority city council.

If Sal Sbranti were mayor of antioch you’d see a turn around in less than a year.

I just read the other day the DEI libby’s (“On the label, label, label”) say that reading books is white supremacy, so this should have been anticipated.

Antioch has a Library?
Where?

Notice they went straight to private security, and probably never considered utilizing their police.

What could an armed security represent for the up to no good crowd, if they dont even have respect for the crowd. We are the prisoners here, forced to stay indoors for safety, while criminals out there. Who the government working for?

You need armed security at Kansas City Super Bowl Parade shooting. You need armed security for the shooting at Joel Osteen’s church services in Texas. You need armed security at Walmart in every state. You need armed security at Elementary schools across the country. SEE A TREND??? Everyone has a gun. Welcome to America. Please THUMBS DOWN this post to show your support for more guns in America so we can measure how sick our community is.

Think I’ll pop in and grab a copy of George Orwell’s 1984 before it’s banned.

Try to steal a book. Get shot. Just like in china.

Antioch passed rent control contributing to its downhill slide of its economy and population. Not Concord is emulating Antioch in a similar path

Okay I’m going to say it….The county has a Sheriff’s Dept that has some deputies that don’t do much. There is very little unincorporated area to patrol and to be honest there is no need for 6-7 deputies to be driving up and down Pacheco Blvd 24/7/365. So rather than pay for security send a couple of those deputies to the library.

Thorpe said he had no idea they were having problems. Maybe if he got out on the streets of Antioch he would see what is going on. He has his blinders on and won’t go out and help the city he is supposed to be running.
