The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified two people killed in a head-on crash early Saturday on eastbound Highway 4 near Brentwood.
Oakley residents Andres Hernandez, 22, and Christopher Cannedy, 35, died in the crash.
CHP said at approximately 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision in the eastbound direction of State Route 4, west of Lone Tree Way. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants.
The driver of a blue Scion TC was traveling westbound, in the wrong direction, in the eastbound lanes, CHP said. The second victim drove a black Mazda 3, traveling eastbound at the same location and the vehicles collided head on.
All lanes were blocked during extrication and the roadway was cleared by 7:12 a.m.
The crash is still under investigation and it’s unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Anyone with information about the crash can contact CHP Contra Costa in Martinez, (925) 646-4980 or email your contact information to 320Investigations@chp.ca.gov to be contacted by investigators.
Nothing good happens after 2:00 AM.
I always told this to my children once they started driving
Maybe not to you…..
Highway 4 should be called Highway to hell. R.I.P.
I think about putting one-way spike strips on offramps when I hear about a wrong-way driver on the highway. Worst outcome would be 4 flat tires.
Chris was an innocent driver on his way to work when he was murdered by Andres Hernandez,22, who already had 2 DUIs. Murderers family has a go fund me account to bury the murderous son. I think they should give the money collected to the real victims family. If you don’t like this post I don’t really care because an amazing young man lost his life, and his family will be forever broken because of someone’s stupid decision to drive drunk.😡😢
Nailed it, Janice 👍🏽
Chris was on his way to work. Such a kind and responsible kid – a huge loss ~ my heart breaks for his family and friends. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
