Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ, located at the Sunvalley Mall in Concord, has permanently closed.

The restaurant closed in January. No reason was given by the company.

Before Lucille’s, the restaurant was Fresh Choice.

QUESTION: What would you like to see move into vacated space?

Another one bites the dust. Thanks, Obama

wish there was a HAHAHAHAHAHA option instead of just thumbs up or thumbs down.

You people are always blaming some politician when a gross restaurant with gross food goes out of business. It’s like driving by a car accident to see people on Claycord defending these god-awful restaurants with their lives.

Uhhh, Jessica, you do realize that food preferences are totally subjective, right? A restaurant might have the best Indian food in the world, but I wouldn’t spend a dime there because I can’t stand the taste of that s**t.

Yes, food preferences are subjective. However, no matter what kind of food one likes, we like good quality well prepared food, and good service. From the comments here seems a couple of ingredients were missing to make the place a success. To blame a restaurant closing on a president who have not been in office for 8 years is a bit of a strecth.

Say it isn’t so! I blame Joe Biden and Gavin Newsome because Fox News told me to. I sure wish I could think for myself…

Fresh Choice? No, it wasn’t. Fresh Choice was in Walnut Creek where Gott’s is.

It was also Fresh Choice

It absolutely was a Fresh Choice. There was one in Walnut Creek as well.

the space was rebuilt from Fresh choice and new larger foot print Lucilles. That space was a Melting Pot Fondue joint before Fresh Choice. The there it is!<

Natalie S, You are right about Fresh Choice. I forgot about the melting pot. But your right about that also.

It is nice that you can be so confident in how wrong you are.

It doesn’t really matter, does it.

Yes it was fresh choice.

Do not be that person who suggests Olive Garden. Just don’t.

To late! 😂🤪

It doesn’t really matter, does it.

People that suggest Olive Garden have no idea how wonderful real Italian cooking is, there is absolutely no comparison.

@DAWG..…But where else are you going to find Grilled Corn Snake on a Stick?

Gun store…..

I love this suggestion, but in the current environment a pot dispensary is more likely.

Not too surprised. Went twice because granddaughter wanted to go there for birthday dinner. Over priced food, not so great service either.

I thought that place sucked anyways…

We drove up to Rocklin to use our gift cards since the Concord location closed. We took family from Sacramento. We were a party of seven. Food was delicious and service was delightful. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

If it is chain or franchise it is not that unsual for a different locations to have both better service and food. Although with a franchise the food should be pretty much the same.

Or find standalone, small businesses to support. If you like BBQ like this was or Italian as you suggest, stop supporting chain restaurants like these and the Olive Garden and go to the ones owned by people who make it their whole business. Concord alone is full of them and so are our immediate our neighboring communities in Pleasant Hill and Martinez.

Exactly give Slo Hand BBQ a try. They have a location down the street from Back 40 & one in Martinez as well. Their food is delicious & the price isn’t off the charts like Back 40

Well…..
Just was not good “Q”; most large places (Chains) are not…
Poor quality product, Poor “Q”-ing, and Small portions: Good “Q” is expensive; I don’t mind paying for good servings.
Went once a long while back, so don’t know about the service or cleanliness of the place…
Side note: “Q” is about the MEAT ! Sides are secondary….

I don’t do Sunvalley Mall.

I loved the Happy Hour food at the bar. As a former mall employee I ate there often. The table service was horrible the last time I went. We actually left and went to BJ’s since we were ignored at Lucille’s. I’m not surprised this location closed since they didn’t know how to treat customers.

BJ’s is not what it used to be. 2 of our party of 3 had made reservations on a weekday for lunch, not realizing the other one had. They had neither reservation, the place was practically empty, we had to wait for 20 minutes, asked for a table, they took us to the back to a booth, had to walk back to the other side where the tables were. The person saw that one of the party was elderly using a cane. Won’t be going back.

I believe they closed the day after Christmas. I wonder how long it will be vacant. It took two years to replace Johnny Rockets and I can’t see anything opening here anytime soon.

Might depend on how well they get the pests around Sun Valley under control.

I mean, let’s ignore the fact that the food and service were terrible from the get-go.

Their fried corn snake was great!

Sunvalley seems to be a tough sell to retailers and restaurants today. I think they need more foot traffic.

I never even tried it…..and now they’ve closed….. I blame myself.

Please, Dr. J, forgive yourself.
Seems you’re better off not having went…..
🙂

Chain food is garbage. Never been there knowing it wasn’t good. Bring back Fresh Choice. It’s a chain but it’s like salad and all you can eat salad ain’t a bad thing. The real problem when going out to eat is the service. Customer service in concord sucks (mostly) everyone has an attitude and don’t put any effort to make spending money worthwhile. You leave this area even the drive through people are hella cool, respectful friendly. Concord giving armpit vibes in the restaurant department.

Agreed this used to be such a nice low key area

The one in Roseville was alright but I was raised on Barney’s(not really B-B-Q) and Emil Villas so that is the B-B-Q I like the best but…..Lucille’s does have killer fried okra, not as good as Granny’s, but pretty good.

Recession has begun due to the economy. Many restaurants, businesses and companies are shutting their doors for good or laying off workers. When a restaurant closes, it’s not only the cooks and servers that are impacted; but, the vendors that bring goods, HVAC technicians, maintenance workers, etc. It becomes a domino effect for many jobs and other companies that service the food industry.

Sorry to see them go. For the best Bar B Que in the world give Barney’s Hickory Pitt on Clayton Road in Concord a try. Barney’s one of a kind taste and daily fresh cooked ribs and beef definitely make up for 50 year old décor and dated ambiance. I used the word ambiance very liberally. While a good remodel might get a few eye-rolls from some of the old timers they could definitely use one.

Sorry, but I must disagree! We tried Barney’s a couple of times, and they were barely OK. I have at least a dozen better barbecue joints within a half hour of my house that are much better than Barney’s.

Really, what are they called? I love trying new places.

You know I’m in Nashville, right? But if you’re ever in the area, start with the Loveless Cafe out in the West side, or Jacks, downtown.

Not surprised – food mediocre at best, service poor …. wouldn’t go to SVM now unless as AC said, a gun store – that won’t happen – so never

It was the poor table service that stopped my family eating there.
It seems to be a common problem.
Claim Jumper and others went the same way.

Watch out Yard House…. You’re moving in the same direction.

Bummer- I have a 50$ gift card . Was waiting untill I got my CCW to go down and use it.
Oh well.

The gift card or the firearm?

Good Maps Street View May 2011 from CC Blvd. shows Fresh Choice.
