The money was mismanaged from the get go. Now they’re doubling down on justifying these hikes to take on maintenance that should have been addressed years ago. If anything, they owe us for not keeping up with their end of the deal.
Yeah, it’s really ridiculous how many times this company has hired outside companies to do audits and find where all of the waste is. These outside companies are usually very overwhelmed in what they see. The last one about ten years ago quit because they didn’t know where to begin!
I’m also surprised that Cities in Claycord haven’t tried to go the way of Alameda or SMUD and start their own power generation…..we already have refineries and two ex PG&E power plants (Pittsburg & Amtioch).

Do you ever feel like you are being gouged every time you turn around? I used to pay 45 cents to cross the Benicia bridge until it was going to be free. My 20 year old truck costs as much as ever to registerr. I pay as much as ever for government services but I cant think of one thing they do well. Please tell me one thing? Public education? Bullet train? At least they haven’t ruined the weather…..yet
Ah yes, The bridge was going to self support and be free if we would just cough up a few more bucks for a short while…. Remember it well.
AND, We were promised decades ago that the visual blight of PG&E’s poles and wires would “go away” “be undergrounded” etc. Property values would increase when those wires were gone. Rates hiked! But look up!! Now every phone or cable, company that wants to compete can just pay PG&E a few bucks to rent “wire hook” space on poles that are NEVER going away. Five and a half years ago — article on funds they charged, but then (once again) diverted to other causes (aka theft of funds) https://www.ktvu.com/news/money-slated-to-put-pge-power-lines-underground-was-diverted-for-years-2-investigates: (KTVU) –
“For decades, Pacific Gas & Electric had been diverting money away from power line undergrounding projects to what it calls “other high priority system improvements.”
PG&E did not provide 2 Investigates details on exactly how much and where the diverted money went. A spokeswoman said the funds were directed to “other work as needed to provide safe, reliable and efficient service.”
PG&E files bankruptcy to avoid costs of killing people due to poor/non-existant service, but continues to show profits and pay their dividends (and probably a few hefty kick-backs.)
They ride the customer’s wallet gravy train and whine about “renewable energy.” but sold their 5,000 acre wind farm in Solano County to the land grabber Silicon Valley barrons that have bought up that notorious 55,000 acres to build Utopia City for Rich People.
Wait. Did they share the money from that land and “wink-wink” renewable wind sale with the rate-payers who helped pay to buy it in the first place?
Meanwhile, PG&E also PRIVATELY owns utility and profit producing business(es) that are NOT part of the CPUC regulated entity. Double whammy? 🤔 Are they selling to themselves and we’re paying for it?
**Don’t get me going about Contra Costa County Water District. Talk about screw!

How about putting rate increases on the ballot, let us vote on it.
.
From last November,
‘Report from CPUC Public Advocate Finds CA Residential Electricity Prices
More than 2X the National Average’
“We don’t hear much about California’s “decarbonization work,” the state’s and California Public Utility Commission’s flawed scheme to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But we see the painful results in our monthly electricity bills.
.
The Public Advocates Office at the California Public Utilities Commission, published a new report which found PG&E residential electricity prices are more than double the national average. The report also found PG&E rates have gone up 92% in less than 10 years. And PG&E is back at the CPUC asking for even higher rates.
.
For current electricity rates, the report found that the residential electricity rates went up 38% from Jan. 2021 to Sept. 2023.”
Another excellent piece by Katy Grimes caglobe https://tinyurl.com/ycykrkrv

pge 2022 “power mix”,
“renewables” were 38.3%
49.3% was from nuclear.
What some people might not catch, “pge owned generation and power purchases”.
.
Was combining of CA power generation with out of state power purchases done to intentionally hide facts of CA’s inadequate generation capabilities ? ? ?
How much power is purchased from outside CA ? ?

49.3% of pge power from nuclear.
‘Replacing Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant with Renewables ‘Can’t Be Done’

As you might have guessed DEMs can’t allow Diablo Canyon Nuclear plant to close as scheduled in 2025.
Their inadequate nonscalable green energy fantasy house of cards, would implode.
.
‘Nuclear Regulatory Commission could extend life of plant into 2040’s’
“The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced on Thursday that the last remaining nuclear power plant in California, Diablo Canyon, will be exempted and will continue to operate while the license renewal application is considered.”

I can tell you most energy companies gouge. I have SW Gas for my gas provider. My bill for Nov 15 – Dec 15, 2022 was $160+. My bill for the same period 2023 was $320+. I knew it was going up but figured “up” would be $150-$175, not $320. It is nuts. And….and….it didn’t turn really cold until around after Christmas this year. I don’t have a big house, it’s 1400 sq ft. What running the oven a bit more to bake Christmas cookies caused that big of a jump? I don’t think so. All energy companies know we are captives to them. Furnaces can be turned down but people cook and take showers.
I personally think the energy lobby needs to be outlawed and we the people should get a vote on rate increases. I doubt anyone would vote against a 1%-3% increase but the giant ones they are imposing everywhere is outrageous. Time for everyone to start looking at those Mitsubishi systems

Have not turned on a furnace in 5 years. Never turn on more than 3 lights in my house at a time. All fixtures have only one bulb. I am never going to allow myself to be gouged by this criminal organization. I am from Northern Illinois. It gets really cold there. This is spring weather to me even in the high 40s. Cannot wait to retire and get out of this liberal utopia.
Thing is that you shouldn’t need to be that austere to save on energy bills. I think many of us are doing that. For instance I have conditioned myself to lower temps in the house. Following their recommendations I set the temp for 68 degrees later in the day and strangely enough that seemed to work since the furnace would only go on maybe once an hour or more for a few minutes to maintain that temperature.
There is, BTW, something not mentioned is a lower rate for fixed income folks. But I think someone reported here a while back that won’t be ready until later this year. Of course there are the corporate buildings that you may need to wear a jacket in during summer due to wasteful AC. PG&E needs to go.
