How awful, I hope they catch the driver.

The “driver” you reference may not be at fault in this… he/she may just be drunk, no license, no insurance, have a gun, warrant, etc. – 12/13 year old’s usually do not drive well & their “joy ride” may have gone wrong. Things are not always as they seem.

The driver at fault was the driver in the teen’s car. Whether that did turn out to be the Dad or one of the teens. If the Dad, then he also ran off (likely drunk) and should burn in hell for his actions. The car with the teens ran a stop sign and then the SUV T-boned them. And the SUV driver ran away for reasons that I can probably guess (drunk or no license).

Speed, lawlessness & Reckless driving in East County?? Say it isn’t so!!!
Such a shame that the Police station was sacrificed and CHP is non existent on Hwy 4.
Can you blame them…….they put their jobs at risk if they pull anyone over.

Yes, the car with the teens ran the stop sign. And then the Dad, if actually driving, ran off, along with the driver of the car they hit. My guess is BOTH drivers were drunk.

The children’s dad was driving. It was the other drivers fault – per the news

What I read in Mercury News said the car with the teens ran a stop sign. So, they might be at fault. But NBC said that the other car “slammed into them (teens)” and that the Dad was at the scene, but it was unclear if he was driving or had just shown up. I bet these kids took the car out and likely ran a sign. And also had no seat belts on. The other car probably was an illegal or a drunk and fled, even if they were not technically at fault.

TTD- not sure what you were reading but now ALL of the reports say that the teen’s car was at fault. Like I said already. It is likely the Dad was driving and he also ran away. Both drivers were probably drunk, then.

Very tragic. We have read about several recent deaths of children and young people who were not wearing seat belts. Not sure if that was the case here.

I found a recent national study indicating about 7% of children are riding in cars unbuckled, and it is even worse in the Hispanic community (15%) and in the black community (21%).

I fear this is only going to get worse since police in many cities are no longer doing proactive stops due to “equity” demands from various progressive groups. Buckle up everybody! Stay safe!
