There is no comparison between FDR, Truman and JFK (and other democrats from 50-100 years ago) and today’s democrats. You also don’t understand that California is a democrat stronghold – 50% of the voters are democrat, 25% are republican and 25% are decline to state/independent. Look at the makeup of the legislature; the democrats hold a supermajority in which anything can get passed without support by the republicans. Ability to impose a harsh Felony sentence which would be immediately stayed, provided defendant got clean-n-sober, stayed that way and maintained steady employment. Defendant was placed on 3 – 5 years of probation with the VERY CLEAR understanding if terms of probation were not adhered to the original Felony sentence would immediately be imposed.
Saw that method work more times than I can count over the years.

These days IF a substance abuser even gets to Court and Judge learns of substance abuse and offers treatment, defendants decline opting instead for jail. Knowing full well due to jail overcrowding they’ll be back out on our streets after serving a mere fraction of their sentence and long before a 90 day treatment program would end. They’re turned back onto our streets with their addiction behavior intact.

That is exactly why candidates occupation and party affiliation should be removed from our ballots. Voters should have to know something about the candidates they vote for, and not just look for a candidates “party affiliation” and the word “incumbent.”

The vote totals tend to increase for one or more candidates in most elections. The 7 million vote margin between Trump and Biden in the 2020 election came from just two states, California and New York, about 30 counties in those two states accounted for the popular vote margin, all other states canceled each other out.

Jellyfinger, there are very few constitutional requirements to run for the Presidency. A candidate must be at least 35 years of age, a natural born citizen and, having resided in the US for at least 14 years. The 14th amendment added one more requirement, but as we both agree that would not have been apply to the 1860 election.

The “birther” movement was started, and the first “birther” lawsuit was filed to remove Senator Barack Obama from the ballot, by supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton in 2008, before being co-opted by Republicans.

Yes, in the case of the Colorado Supreme Court ruling to prevent former President Donald Trump from appearing on Colorado primary ballots, which they stayed, and makes the matter moot at the moment, was brought by Republicans, as Democrats didn’t have standing to bring the case. Yes, Donald Trump did engage in “birtherism” and questioned the legitimacy of President Obama’s birth certificate for several years. The difference is that the Trump “insurrection” movement was started by Democrats and has largely been a Democrat led movement for 3 years, with a small minority of Republicans having joined the Trump “insurrection” movement, while the Obama “birther” movement was started by Democrats and then was taken over by Republicans.
