A security guard at an Oakland 7-Eleven was shot and killed Friday night while trying to stop someone from stealing from the store.

Oakland police said they were called just before 10:15 p.m. to a business in the 2300 block of Harrison Street.

Officers located the guard who had been shot inside the store. Paramedics arrived and tried providing medical treatment, but the guard died at the scene.

Investigators said the guard was attempting to stop someone from stealing items from the store. The suspect pulled a gun and fired a round at the guard before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Oh the joys of Oakland! The the mayor & city council there need to be recalled and kicked out of office. They have no clue on what’s going on or how to handle it! I work in Oakland not far from this location and so many of our customers and locals are being beaten bloodyand robbed right in front of our eyes. It is brutal. And all the Oakland mayor could say is that she’s going to apply for more grant money to do studies on how to solve the problem. Oakland has had 11,000 cars stolen this year! My insurance company canceled me once they found out that I work in Oakland and have to drive there. These crazy liberals in Oakland don’t understand the criminals need to go to jail, and you need to give the police some power to do their job! I don’t think they’ll ever see it they are so brainwashed in their liberal dogmas that they are blind.

Hope they catch the perp – lock him up and throw away the key….. life , no chance for parole… needs to be made an example of… very sad, just a gut doing his job

A security guard in Oakland is like being in the South Pacific during WW2. It takes a brave person to do that job. We repay them with no bail.Something has gone wrong.

It’s Oakland and, not surprisingly, normalized.
.
How is defunding the police, lax law enforcement standards, and historically poor leadership working for them?
.
Harris, Dellums, Brown, Schaaf, and Thao stand as the pantheon of feckless leadership and mediocrity.
.
Then there’s DA Pamela Price… they, in Alameda County, got what they voted for!!

There is something I noticed in Martinez, and that when people move here particularly from out-of-state they seem to vote (if they vote) for the incumbent since they don’t know the local scene yet. There is a chance the next election they won’t make that mistake again. I think this contributes to the problem. New people just vote what their neighbors voted for.

CAPTAIN BEBOPS,
.
How have you been able to “notice” the way new voting citizens that have moved to Martinez, especially from out of state, are voting?

This is tragic. Time to hear from Gavin Newsom on his plans to end this insanity.

You are so right. But, he’s busy working on more important and pressing issues like hair style discrimination

Security Guard- Rest in peace and thank you for trying to make a difference and do your job. What a thankless profession. Either you’re told to stand down and do nothing to stop thieves in which case you’re not guarding anything or you try and intervene and get murdered for your efforts. Anyone want to take a crack at describing the nimrod that pulled the trigger? I hope the Police identify him and karma catches up with him. Oakland continues to remain the bunghole of the bay area.

Newscum is the insanity, closing prisons he says we are not going back to putting people in jail. All why he moves around with taxpayer paid security detail.

What inside a 7-11 is worth dying for. Sorry for his family

On the other hand if you didn’t have a guard they would wipe out the whole store. The only solution is to make stealing a candy bar a jailing offense and stop the no bail business. Something needs to be done and it is not just more police although that would be good.

The solution might lie in a system where the criminal has to ask him or herself the same question. “What in this store is worth dying for”.

Stores are wising up and leaving high crime areas… just closing up and quitting them.

Lives Don’t seem to matter much in some parts of Oakland.. The current “Culture” is Sad, in its acceptance of the Criminal Population..

God rest your soul, sir. Thank you for doing your duty to protect.

Total tragedy here. I have heard for years and there was no shortage of it on the news this morning as they say “nothing is worth your life and just let them take it” and this is exactly what allows this behavior to take place. Thugs ( I prefer other terms) walk with impunity here as we have stood aside and allowed it and now when the occasional Hero stands up for the right thing this happens. sad, RIP.

Another reason for reasonable gun control and gun buy-backs.

What’s reasonable? And how does one “buy back” a gun they never owned in the first place?

Bingo! could have not said it better
Also the thugs never bought theirs in the first place so why would they sell it back?
