Dan Quayle got a bad rap. I can’t spell it either most days. Sorry, no more politics. I stay out of the Politics thread. the Mayor nd his goons know why. 😁

@Atticus Thraxx
I read it all and will comment on just three:
1) What does the Mayor and his goons know that others on here don’t?
2) Never give up your vehicle’s performance for anything.
3) Raised white letters on tires haven’t gone away…I’ve always had them and they say: Goodyear Wrangler

Hey CYN,
1. As diplomatically as I can put it, historically there’s been enough editorial objections to my style of political inter course that my continued contributions may not have been welcome. So I went to Twitter and it was fine until the nazis came back and I got banned for 30 days. Who knew nazis were so sensitive? 😝
2. My heart tells me you’re absolutely right. But my head every once in a while gets a word in.
3. You rock. I can see it in my mind. 👊

@Atticus
Thanks for responding. Sounds like you made some very interesting contributions and I won’t pry. And I know what you mean about your head. Also, not sure that I rock but my tires sure do. 🙂

Truth is I can be pretty irritating CYN, and not everyone knows how to respond to it. I’m glad you do. 👊😎

Book reports: #1 – Sleeping Planet, William R Burkett, Jr, 1967. Humans have moved out to the stars. Mars and Venus are settled but Earth still rules. Then the aliens came and put everyone on those three planets to sleep. All except 10 who are immune. One man, with artificial legs manages to kill some of them, is caught and put in jail – minus his legs. And then the fun begins! He tells his alien jailer that he is talking, out loud, to his deceased grandfather. His tale is that the dead will take revenge on the aliens for their invasion. There are specters on the march against the aliens up to and including the headless horseman. Domestic robot salesbots get in the act as well. This is a fun Sci Fi that can make you chuckle at times.

#2 – Damnation Alley, Roger Zelazny, 1969. The humans that have turned the future Earth into deadly wasteland. Hell Tanner, an anti-hero ever there was one, dives a special war type wagon from the Country of California to the Country of Boston to deliver a cure for plague. Violence in almost every form from the land, the sky, the animals, and then there are the humans. There had been a movie made from this and there are 22 stills from it in the center of the book.

I read Damnation Alley years ago. Sparse and visceral, though the copy I read didn’t have any stills. It was okay. Not groundbreaking or anything. But I finished it.

Greatly enjoyed Sleeping Planet when it was first published and still think of it sometimes. It introduced me to the word “quarrel” as in an armour-piercing crossbow bolt. Great summary – thanks, Dorothy!

Luxembourg is beautiful. I spend a couple of nights there, when I hitchiked through Northern Europe with my girlfriends, one night at the police station. If anyone is curious I will gladly tell the story.

Do tell tell Fraulein! In case you were worried I was able to backtrack and avoid capture. Your story is probably better. 😁

My 2 girlfriends and I arrive in Luxemburg City fairly late at night. We took a taxi to the Youth Hostel, because you have to check in before 10 p.m. As soon as we got out of the taxi a guy comes out screaming at us, it is after 10 o’clock, you can’t stay here. We spoke to him in English informing him that he is suppose to turn away women. He asked “if we were some goddamn American’s,” we answered “No, were are goddamn Danes”. He could not be reasoned with. We walked across to the street to a park and sat at some benches contemplating spending the night there. A young man came by and asked if we were lost. We explained the situation to him, asked if he knew of a cheap place to spend the night. He took us to the police station, we were shown inside to an office, we explained the situation to the police man. He asked us to wait, then came back and asked us to follow him. He showed us into a big nice office, obviously the office of the police captain. He said unfortunately he could not force the Youth Hostel to give us room for the night. However, he said in the police station they had an empty room upstairs, with a bathroom, and if we didn’t mind sleeping on the floor we could spend the night there. We had to leave by 6:30 a.m. because a class was supposed to be taught there at 7 a.m. So we slept on the floor and at 6 a.m. a nice police officer knocked on the door, “Young ladies, it is time to get up”. We told everyone how grateful we were and walked out of the police station a little before 7 a.m. with our backpack. There were a line of people waiting outside, as we walked by you could almost read their minds “What in the world did these 2 nice young girls do that the were in police custody.

The 3 of us had hitchhiked from Edingborough down to Dover, then Northern France, including Paris, Belgium. Luxemburg, Holland, Northern Germany (where one of our group were from) then back to Denmark) it took us about 6 weeks and we had many unusual experiences, mostly positive and heartwarming, but spending the night at the police station was probably the most unusual.

Great story, Hanne!
You’ve had an exciting life.

Thank You. I have been blessed with wonderful experiences and wonderful lifelong friends.
P.S. My comment should read “not suppose to turn women away:, and of course we were 3 walking out of the police station, we didn’t leave one of us behind.

Your story was better Hanne. If there is a heaven, I hope they reserve good seats for those who help and keep safe young travelers, especially young women. 🇺🇸 🇱🇺

Pick One:
.
A) Chile Relleno
B) Tamale
C) YUCK !

7

@S….A) Chile Relleno….Just made a Chile Relleno casserole last week, working on modifying to my tastes, first attempt was pretty tasty and just ate the last of it a couple of hours ago. My Mom used to make the real deal when I was a kid, I’m looking for an easy peasy recipe with the casserole. Pork tamales are my second choice for Mexican food….too lazy to make those too. My Dad used to get really good ones in the 60s from a place under the MacArthur Maze but it was destroyed during the Loma Prieta earthquake.

B) Those I have had A) occasionally.

Chile Relleno!

Tamale every time.

A & B

Definitely not a yuck, but it all depends on who makes them. There are a couple of Mexican grocery stores on Monument that make their own tamales, and they’re pretty darn good. The best chile relleno I ever had was at a little hole in the wall in Mexico.

Hole-in-the-wall places are the best.

A & B. But like others here have mentioned, it’s all on who or how it’s made.
I’ve have not made either A or B but will try one day.
Next thing I’m going to try to make soon for the first time will be panettone.
Best store bought one I’ve had was from WIlliams-Sonoma.
Four years ago it cost $42, …. I can’t bring myself to buy one, since Hubby will eat 1/2 in one sitting!

…both thank you… some chips, guacamole and pico too please

C. Gonna pass, but politely. No thank you.

.
NYTE… for “easy peasy recipe”:
.
pre-heat oven to 425
13″x9″ cake pan (glass is best) lightly greased and floured.
.
Large can diced (or 2 cans if you want) Ortega chilies rinsed and drained.
2lbs grated plain jack cheese.
mix together well and press into pan

6 large eggs
1/2 cup cream or half&half
1/4 cup water
1 cup sour cream
1/4 onion chopped; optional, but I like
2 garlic gloved minced; also optional, but I like
1/4 teaspoon cumin
tablespoon corn starch
blend all until frothy then slowly pour over cheese/chili mixture and let stand a few minutes
.
in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes (if top isn’t browned to your liking, switch on the top broiler for a few….
let cool and set up at least 20 minutes….
.
this will feed many or give you leftovers….
.

.
luv the panettone. and you do get what you pay for; low priced ones aren’t so good.
Baking isn’t a good skill set for me. let me know how your venture goes.

@S….It’s not the ingredients I’m searching for, I didn’t use sour cream, but looking for the best way to cook them for the right texture. I saw that recipe online (there’s a jillion) but was a little afraid of cooking at such a high temperature. The next time I make this I’ll probably go with the higher temperature. I saw one recipe that used Bisquick and evaporated milk mixed in with the eggs, that may be the ticket. Thanks though.

was making my mouth water just typing all that…. and just before going grocery shopping this morning.
.
So, you know it’s in the oven now!

ps: the corn starch keeps the egg mixture stable at the high heat. Probably what the bisquick does. Either way…. I’ll be eatin’ good at about 5:30….
🙂

@ S ~
OH! I’m going to try your recipe!
I will let you know about the panettone.

I got up early to watch the SpaceX Starship launch on a beautiful morning on the gulf coast. It all went almost as planned and the key objectives were met. There was a RUD though, a term I love. RUD = Rapid Unexpected Disassembly (the booster blew up after staging). Now, back to editing my photos of Lake Iseo.

Awesome video! Explosion @ 3:35

It sucked to watch. I know they’ll say they got an incredible amount of useful data from it, but it’s still disappointing. 🚀🇺🇸

Busted. 🤣

@S….I haven’t been able to cook my meals from scratch the last year or so. I’ve eaten like that my whole adult life with the occasional In and Out, KFC or sushi but it’s just getting too hard to cook like that and keep up the housework and stuff. I’ve been searching for easy fast recipes and healthy “store bought” food. Since I only cook for myself I half all the recipes I find. Amy’s Foods have a frozen Chile Relleno bowl but they’re like $7, way crazy price for what it is and was trying to duplicate that. It’ll take a couple of batches to get this to suit my tastes. What I really miss is having a garden for the last few years, nothing like home grown tomatoes and veggies….such is life.

Mine went much lower last two months. I need to double check on the medical discount.

Im trying to watch the 49er game and one person in the room is watching videos on her phone. I asked politely for her to use her pods or mute her phone. She complies for a few minutes and then right back at it. Am I the only person that is annoyed by this? BTW she is a 40 year woman…

Well…. We know who’s in charge there; don’t we….

If I was on your jury, you’d walk for manslaughter on that one if I had anything to say about it Amie.

On Friday morning a women ran over a man with her car coming out of the Clayton Valley Shopping Center. Ton of police, fire trucks, and 2 ambulance. Haven’t seen anything on next door, or Claycord. Anyone have any info on how the man is? Thanks

@2 cents
Her car was coming out of the shopping center? Oh, I get it now; it was one of those new, self driving cars.

I’ve seen nothing official, but I’d wager he’s feeling tire-d & maybe a bit run down.

D) Huh?

@S

Apple starts tonight at 1am-ish….

Black Friday arrived early with a brawl at the WC Cheesecake factory Monday. It’s getting worse.

These people serve as a reminder to get your holiday shoplifting done early this year.

Good chance of freezing temperatures this weekend.

I just saw Cher on the television. I can’t imagine the millions it cost or the pain see endured, but damn she looks good. She’s gotta be like 80 by now.
I just checked, she’s 77. Both my grandmas look like an old shoe by 58. 🤷

Last ???
