The old Claim Jumper building on Diamond Blvd. in Concord has been demolished to make room for the new Chick-fil-A.

The proposed 4,974-square-foot restaurant will have a drive-thru, and sit on 1.2 acres.

The site will also feature an outdoor patio and a drive-thru queuing for approximately 43 vehicles. It will employ 50 to 75 full-time and part-time employees.

Chick-fil-A has over 2,800 restaurants in 47 states.

Hope they cleaned out the pests when they removed the old building.

I really like that place. Concord screwed Chick-fil-A with that location, it will be impossible to shop anywhere around there.

Remember when Whole Earth was in that shopping center? Computer City/CompUSA?

After the economy took a dive around 1990, The Willows quickly emptied out to the point that it was almost spooky walking through to one of the remaining businesses. I thought sure that the whole shopping center would be torn down and replaced by something completely different, such as housing. Around 1993-94, CompUSA took over the empty Whole Earth building on the south end of the shopping center and a restaurant that had been on the north end was torn down and replaced by Claim Jumper. It seemed that, when these two businesses moved in, The Willows quickly came back to life and became even better. We still miss the early version of Claim Jumper. It’s too bad that we had to watch it slowly go down hill over its last ten years or so.

We already have the Park & Shop for a shopping center that’s all restaurants.

THE OBSERVER,
.
The restaurant that Claim Jumper replaced was Charlie Brown’s.
.
Yes, things changed after Landry’s bought Claim Jumper at a bankruptcy auction 10-15 years ago.

I loved Whole Earth. Was sorry to see it go. Bought my first folding knife there.

There was also Trader Joes . Cost Plus World Market. (I know they moved over to Veranda but the old store was larger). At one point, Jungle for kids, a toy store for kids owned by FAO Schwarz, an ice cream shop, … Pier One… and El Torito!

Looks like the same fence as in Downtown Clayton across from the Stranahan Homes on Marsh Creek Rd.

Cyn November 3, 2023 - 8:30 PM - 8:30 PM

@Bill
Yeah, the folks in Stranahan have just got to be loving all that dust.

WC---Creeker November 3, 2023 - 3:27 PM - 3:27 PM

When complete the $20 min wage for fast food workers will be in place and the chicken sandwich will be priced at $22. Thanks Newsom!

WX—CREEKER,
.
If Chick-fil-A makes their own bread at this location then the $20.00 minimum wage doesn’t apply.

If I’m going to cheat and eat fast food, it ain’t gonna be some dang ol chicken. Get me an artery clogging, juice running off your elbows kind of burger. And some of those fries. 🍟 🍔

The secret to making great French fries and tortilla chips at home is using hot canola oil. All other oils make the fries and chips soggy.

… let’s see how long it takes to build it out though…. I say Feb 2024 – takers?

I don’t buy this for one second, and I’m looking forward to trying Chick-fil-A for the very first time. That grilled chicken sandwich looks good.

CYN,
.
I’m not a fan of the yardbird (disclaimer)

I find chick-fil… to actually be kind of bland. I do need a more flavorful seasoning, but that’s just me…. Let us know your opinion when you go….

Beanzy November 4, 2023 - 12:00 PM - 12:00 PM

Not truly bland if it comes with a single dill pickle the size of a quarter. Talk about adding flavor!

Cyn November 4, 2023 - 3:34 PM - 3:34 PM

@S
There are three places I have yet to try: Chick-fil-A, Jersey Mikes, and In-n-Out Burger. (My opinion of Chick-fil-A could take a while.) 🙂

I’ve never tried chic filet. Not a fan of any business run on religious ethics. That’s what’s wrong with this country.

This restaurant is going to kill that intersection and stretch of road. Traffic will be stupid

When it initially opens, it’ll be nuts. People lose their minds over this place, but they really only have a handful of items on the menu.

I was going weekly trying all the different items, but after a while, it’s like– meh and it becomes less exciting. Same old same old. Chicken this way, chicken that way. It *is* good though.

RunDog November 5, 2023 - 1:43 PM - 1:43 PM

I had one Chic-fil-A and haven’t been back. It kept sliding off the bun and was bland and dry by comparison to something like Popeye’s chicken, — although I didn’t care for Popeye’s chicken sandwich, either..

I was surprised to find that Burger King has a better chicken sandwich and it’s still hot by the time I get home. I’ve been to In-N-Out many times. While it’s still crowded, I go inside to order and eat it there. Excellent and quick service, fresh ingredients, shakes, secret menu. With the exception of Five Guys in Clayton Valley Shopping Center, In-N-Out is by far a superior burger.
