Sure I am tired of it and it easy to fix that problem. it’s Magic, all you got to do is tell them get out of business if they keep asking you for tip 🙂

Other than restaurants, I don’t use services that are tip worthy, so I am not being asked to tip for everything. If someone actually asked me for a tip, I would view that person as presumptuous and arrogant, and I’d simply decline without any explanation.

I tip at restaurants, car washes, valet parking lots and barber shops. Thats it.
Here’s a tip – pull out. It’ll save you money in the long run.

I just don’t go back. I suppose this my fit in Claycord’s previous “do you boycott businesses” question. I suppose I do.

No, not really, besides few places actualy ask for a tip. Tipping in restaurants 15 to 20 percent is custom. Depends on the service, if it is really good I tip 20 percent. I tip my hair stylist. Many places such as Starbucks have a tip jar, depends on what I order I will usually drop a dollar into it. At Christmas time I get a little more generous. I tip at the carwash.

I like to tip to help people, when good effort is made but I won’t be guilted into tipping.
But, due to ‘Bidenomics’, we are having to cut back quite a bit lately by not even spending on the things that you end up tipping for!

If I tip it all, it’s usually a dollar. If you want more money, get a better job. The only person that ever gets even more than a dollar from me is the person that cuts my hair. I don’t want them to screw it up the next time but again they only get two dollars.

No tips except for sit down restaurant server ( once or twice a year only), and you have to refill my drink and check in from time to time, 15-20%. Not just take order bring food an then check, then you get 10% or maybe 0%.
I don’t use any other services that would be tipped.

If you don’t care to tip just be honest about it: “As long as that idiot in the White House continues his attempt to bankrupt the country on purpose, I can’t afford to tip”.
They will be hard pressed to disagree.
Before the lockdown, I tipped based on service, and if the tip was only 15% it meant the service was less than what I thought it should have been. But coming out of the lockdown, I tended to tip, even for poor service, just to encourage them to come back to work the next day.
Now, I’m back to performance-based tips, but I am tipping higher amounts. I won’t tip when I order at the counter and walk away with my food, but I always tip whoever brings food to my house.

We have become more “prudent” with our tipping and will tip appropriately instead of always adding 15-20%. We spent a month in Italy earlier this year where tipping is not expected. It was refreshing to not feel pressured to tip; we did so when we got exceptional service.
I don’t know about Italy, but in Denmark and other European countries there is about 20% add to the bill that is considered a tip. It have been suggested to do the same here, but some say it might discourage more generous tipping, also then the server have no incentive to give exceptional service. Often there are stories on the internet, especially at Christmas time, where someone will leave a very generous tip, like $100.00 at a diner.
@Hanne;
I believe that oftentimes, that $100 tip is for a large party, not just for one or two people.

so far, no. I do not go out that much where I am asked to tip. I did just get a couple hot dogs, and the register provided an option for tipping. Didn’t bother me. I guess I view it as, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

I generally tip about 20% at restaurants, but NO TIP ON THE TAX. Also, I don’t patronize those places that impose a “service fee”, supposedly to pay employee benefits. I feel its the obligation of the employer to pay their employees a living wage, not for the patron to pay.
Another “tip of contention”;
I will not book any hotel charging a “resort fee, destination fee” or any such junk fee. Hotel rates have gone up enough, and service gone down, without the added fees. Many hotels have already eliminated daily maid service, and for this, they want to charge EXTRA, in the form of junk fees.

Really tired of it. Went to Starbucks to get a small coffee ~$3.25 and the tip options in the credit card machine asked if I’d like to tip (3 options) up to $5.00 or an optional number.
A $5 tip for them pouring a damn $3 cup of coffee? A 166% tip???????
F*** that.

The stigma of pushing the “No tip” option on the spun around touchscreen in front of the counter person is gone. 18% for handing me a bag of food? Ridiculous.
Its very simple- if its to go or a counter sale, no tip. Now if Its my fav barista putting a smiley face on my whip or the regular sushi chef throwing and extra roll in- cash tip directly.
But the whole auto generated tip from the card payment POS is garbage.

At Starbucks and places like that I pay cash. When I eat at a restaurant even if I pay with my debit card, (I try to limit my use of credit cards and don’t like to use them at restuarant) I will leave a cash tip, the servers prefer it that way.

It’s a custom that allows the owner of the restaurant to pay their employees poorly. We subsidize their payroll and it’s wrong. It’s madness. Why not just pay your employees fairly or offer patrons a self serve option. I typically don’t get any GREAT service that makes me want to give the food server money. Though I do because I know they’re not paid fairly. It’s a custom that needs to end really.
