Just a good jolt and almost a whole minute of light rocking.  My clock said 9:28, guess it’s a bit slow.

OMG, yes! I don’t feel most of them because they’re too little, but I totally felt that one here in north Concord.

No and at 4.6 I should have but nothing. Funny is I had just read that tomorrow is a quake alert drill. I was wondering if they were a day early since the alert also came in by text on the phone. . Not unusual that earthquakes occur in the days following an eclipse.

Wow, good to know. I will try to remember the correlation to eclipses and see if it happens again.

Mac N Cheese October 18, 2023 - 9:46 AM - 9:46 AM

Yes! Light rolling that lasted 30 seconds or so. We’re in North Concord.

WC Resident October 18, 2023 - 9:58 AM - 9:58 AM

I’m in north WC near Pleasant Hill and felt it as light swaying of the building. My wife was outside in the garden and did not feel it. 15 to 30 seconds after it was over later I got the alert text. That reminded me that there is supposed to be a test of the earthquake alert system. The test is planned for tomorrow, Thursday, October 19 at 10:19 a.m. PST.

Captain Bebops October 19, 2023 - 12:26 PM - 12:26 PM

Did anyone get a test alert today as mentioned above? I didn’t. Maybe the real one yesterday was sufficient for data.

Martinezmike October 18, 2023 - 10:03 AM - 10:03 AM

Got an alert on my phone, and felt a disturbance in the force

Didn’t feel a thing. I’m near Treat and San Miguel Rd

Mimi 454 October 18, 2023 - 10:52 AM - 10:52 AM

Yes, my pup and definitely felt it! We live near Clayton Rd/Kirker Pass. My home shook side-ro-side like it was designed to do👍🏻 Though it woke up my pup. She gave me the stink eye as if I poked her with my foot😉 This time of year has long been nicked-named earthquake season

Anon October 18, 2023 - 10:55 AM - 10:55 AM

No, but the alert system freaked me out! I thought for a sec there was incoming bombs or something! Geez!🤣🤣

11
RunDog October 18, 2023 - 3:10 PM - 3:10 PM

Yep! The Alert scared me more than the earthquake!

Wage Slave October 19, 2023 - 9:26 AM - 9:26 AM

This is the third or fourth alert I’ve gotten for a quake I never felt. The system needs some calibration or they are just going to train people to ignore it.

This one was at least close and large enough to potentially warrant the alert. The others were so far away, and not large enough to have any effect near me.

Judy October 18, 2023 - 11:12 AM - 11:12 AM

USGS has it at 4.1
I’m in Walnut Creek just heard some creaking

Dawg October 18, 2023 - 11:21 AM - 11:21 AM

I was outside working on a project and didn’t feel a thing.

George October 18, 2023 - 11:43 AM - 11:43 AM

No, I didn’t feel it. I live in Pleasant Hill. The alert notice came in 10:14am so I guess my alert was late.

Rollo Tomasi October 18, 2023 - 1:22 PM - 1:22 PM

Yes. Sitting on the edge of my bed, I thought one of the dogs was on the bed behind me scratching. No dog.

Stealthy Mama October 18, 2023 - 1:42 PM - 1:42 PM

I didn’t feel it. I am a deep sleeper. Maybe a 7.9 shaker like that April 18, 1906 San Francisco one would throw me out of bed.

Dr. Jellyfinger October 18, 2023 - 2:32 PM - 2:32 PM

I’m about 6 miles from epicenter & it shook us up good. No serious damage, just items falling off of shelves & everything rattling around.

Concord Guy October 18, 2023 - 3:32 PM - 3:32 PM

I felt it on my seventh floor office in a ten story building in Walnut Creek. Long shaker. All of the blinds in the office were clacking against the window frames, even after the shaking stopped.

The other Frank October 18, 2023 - 5:01 PM - 5:01 PM

Felt lightly at Concord Airport. Wasn’t aware of any faults in that area…can anyone speak to that?

domo October 18, 2023 - 5:36 PM - 5:36 PM

Yup – strong roller – not a sharp jolt… lased a good while

PESFG October 18, 2023 - 5:45 PM - 5:45 PM

I too received the earthquake warning. It stated something like: “An earthquake has been detected and be prepared to drop, cover, and hold on.” Sure, I will pull over to the side of the freeway and duck under my car or under a freeway sign. I am far more worried about an earthquake happening while I am driving than while I am inside somewhere. These alerts only apply for when people are indoors. I can’t get off my mind the memory of the collapsed Cypress Freeway.
This wasn’t an earthquake, this was a tremor.

Steve Powers October 18, 2023 - 6:40 PM - 6:40 PM

We felt it and our pool was rocking in Brentwood

Steven Powers October 18, 2023 - 6:41 PM - 6:41 PM

Yes we did in Brentwood our pool was rocking

Dr. Jellyfinger October 18, 2023 - 7:35 PM - 7:35 PM

USGS said because the epicenter was in an area saturated with water that when the initial jolt was detected the sensor indicated a much higher intensity (over 5.0 ) which automatically triggered the warning. Don’t ask me how the thing works, but that’s what they said.
