I don’t have a favorite anymore, most of the ones that I thought were good are dead. For a male singer, Elvis was one of my faves, so were Dean Martin, James Brown, Johnny Mathis, Glenn Campbell, Mick Jagger, and Ray Charles.
Although I wasn’t too crazy for most of her songs, for a female singer, I thought Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice. Stevie Nicks, and Joan Baez always sound good too, and I’ve never seen a female singer that could match the energy of Tina Turner.
If I had to pick only one for the best sounding voice and highest pitch, I’d pick Johnny Mathis for male, and Karen Carpenter for female. They weren’t flashy, and didn’t hop around on the stage, but boy, could they sing.

I agree. Stevie Nicks and Karen Carpenter. The Carpenters were the king of Overdubbing which added to deep 3d voice of Karen.

.
Stevie Nicks sounds like a goat.

I love rock and roll, however I don’t care for most female rock singers. I agree was great. My favorite female singer that can match male rock and roll singer is Grace Slick, especially her perfornance at Woodstock 69.

Meant to write Tina was great. I really have to do a better job of proofreading.

Bowie, Elvis, or Scott Walker. Don’t make me pick.

Very similar favorites for me too. Also Frank Sinatra and Hank Williams Sr.

Mick Jagger — best singer, best lead singer, most animated, plays guitar, plays piano, has a wicked sense of humor, writes great songs, collaborates well with others and so on and so on, and so on.

Like @Dawg said, most of the good ones I would have listed have passed on to that great gig in the sky. My favorite singer I think I would list is actually a not so good singer, but he sings so many songs I like, both in a band and with his solo career, and he is a character to boot, and that would be Ozzy. As far as singer who can sing (and is alive), maybe Ian Anderson.

@JEFF (THE OTHER ONE)… Jethro Tull is at Thunder Valley casino tomorrow night and Santa Rosa Sunday night. I saw Ian’s one man show about 5 years ago in San Jose. His voice is in fine form then and told great stories, a most enjoyable evening for sure.

dammit, and I am out of town

Well….Kate Pierson was my favorite……. but ever since I watched that video of Carrie Underwood do “Welcome to the Jungle” it’s been Carrie.

Kate is getting old and plays on the other team anyway.

Kate Pierson is a worthy vote and my love for you only increases Jelly. 👊🤗

@ATTICUS THRAXX….Are you going to take him to the Love Shack?

I go through different music stages, sometimes I will listen to only jazz for a few week, then folk etc.
Some singers I like only a few songs others I like majority of their work. Some I have loved most of their songs, since I first heard them, Pete Seeger, the two Morrison’s, Van and Jim. Others Art Garfunkel, Neil Young, Bono, Wilson Pickett, Richie Havens, John Fogarty, Marvin Gaye, David Ruffin from the Tempations (great singer, not so great a human being). Jazz definitely Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Crooners Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra, also love Robert Goulet. Last, but the one I like most right now Rick Danko from The Band. Female singers Judy Collins and Whitney Houston, especially when she sang Star Spangled Banner at the Superbowl.

All my favorites are long gone. One of my favorites that wasn’t much of singer but when he did it usually just plain fun to hear: Spike Jones.

stevie ray vaughan, if you don’t know him. Look him up you will not be disapointed.

My favorite guitarist to ever play. He was a legend and could sing the blues.

Yes, he was great, too bad he died so young.

If you like SRV, but prefer more of a Hendrix twist, check out Frank Marino (former Mahogany Rush) on “Real Live”.

Another Marino head, I love it! My favorite guitarist. I’ve seen him many times and never disappoints.

My favorite also. Fantastic tone, emotion, technique, and when Frank chooses to play fast, it’s absolutely devastating.
I go out of my way to introduce people to his music whenever I can. The response is always the same, “This guy is unbelievable”.

Female: Diana Krall
Male: Bill Champlin
Best duo: Diana Krall and Tony Bennett

@LARRY….I read long ago that when the Guess Who was just becoming popular, Burton Cummings wrote his songs sitting at the piano “nekid”. He had/has a great voice. The first cassette tape I bought for my car then was American Woman from Lee’s Tape Town on Clayton Rd.

The sitting at the piano “nekid” is in a scene from a 1982 movie he was in titled “Melanie” with Glynnis O’connor, Paul Sorvino and Don Johnson. Decent movie with a lot of good music in it.

@LARRY….Weird how your memory works, or degenerates, over time.

Great choice with Burton.
If you are into The Guess Who, Randy Bachman has a show on Sirius radio entitled “Musical Mystery Tour” on the Beatles Channel. Great music and great stories from his time in rock.

Did not know Bachman still had a radio show, thanks.

Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Michael Jackson

Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin

Impossible question.

My playlist: Elvis P & C … Cornell … Bowie … Plant … Elton … Sinatra … Tony Bennet … Steven Tyler … TP … well, it goes on and on … music is medicine, me thinks … as I write … “I wanna know, have you ever seen the rain” … Rod Stewart … will we ever know the truth about the alleged jizz incident … I digress

You misspelled “ jazz”. 😝 He was an absolute poof, but damn he could go get it. https://youtu.be/mwXjU0LmQ1U?si=aa9W_4KNGAOLHXOv

I saw Rod and the Faces at the Cow Palace in ’73, that was a killer show. Not a big fan post Faces and Small Faces.

Nina Simone, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Maria Callas

Diana Krall, Patricia Barber, Nora Jones. All before they became popular standards. Eric Clapton unplugged. Stevie Ray Vaughn. MICK, JANIS, JIMI, MORRISON, GRACE, NICKS. So many more. Allison Moorer.

Jazz A St Germain chanteusse CD. Get it.

If I have to choose only one, it must be Kris Kristofferson.
