I’m on balanced payments so I’ve been balanced at $103 for a few months now. Knowing PGE I’m sure the next change of balance will be more. It usually is.

2,200 square-foot home built in 1954. Insulation consists of R13 in 2×4 walls R19 in 2×6 walls, R38 for the roof, low-E windows, with an R19 insulated crawlspace.

AC thermostat set at 77°F. If daily temps are over 95°F over three consecutive days, the AC will come on on the third day. We open windows at night and use window box fans to draw in cool air over night.

Air management is key!!

Electricity, $54.45, and gas, $35.94. Electric is down because Summer has been cooler than usual. I have LED and fluorescent lights, and turn them off when I leave a room. I also like the lights off while watching TV. During the winter months, the gas will about double.

Bella September 13, 2023 - 12:52 PM - 12:52 PM

$424 bucks. Two months back to back in the 400 range. Not happy. Won’t be this month.

Bella September 13, 2023 - 12:54 PM - 12:54 PM

I’m very conservative. No lights, only as needed. LED lights. AC 76 or 78, me now.

JJ September 13, 2023 - 1:14 PM - 1:14 PM

$20. I seem to have been cooking more so there was $10 of gas charges. A/C set at 72. Love my solar.

AJ September 13, 2023 - 1:49 PM - 1:49 PM

$220 in a 800 sq.ft condo. Air leaks abound, gets very hot in the afternoon with a south-west facing wall and huge window in the dining area which warms that half of the unit (kitchen, living room and dining room) and keeps it at 76 without a breeze blowing through. The wind usually comes from the South East typically, and we don’t have any windows on that side.

Summer’s stink. But I’m the winter, the warmth is welcome. My bill will go down by about $80, which feels insane as I type this.

Beanzy September 15, 2023 - 5:14 AM - 5:14 AM

You could stop the air leaks by (1) caulking with clear silicone where your floor boards and baseboards meet; (2) weatherproof your doors with weatherstripping, placing the weatherstripping along the inside of the door jamb (e.g., where the door lock goes into its hole), and then all around the rest of the door); (3) install sunblocking window curtains wherever the sun penetrates its heat through your windows.

Mine was rather high $280 for a household of two. We rarely use our AC and when we do it’s at 78 degrees. I don’t know how we can bring the cost down.

Jojo The Circus Clown September 13, 2023 - 3:22 PM - 3:22 PM

Zero … my 2-bedroom, 2.5 bath, serviced apartment w/24-7 security, roof pool, sauna, roof cafe/bar … $850/month all in … rarely need AC, floor fan is enough … Cambodia baby! … live in the Beverly Hills neighborhood of Cambodia ….

Plug into search engine, ‘attic fan replacement motor’
One result https://electricmotorwarehouse.com/attic-fan-motors/
We don’t use our attic fan, instead installed whirlybird.
https://www.lomanco.com/vents/whirlybirds
Have one on our four bedroom house and between it and opening widows and fans overnight we rarely neet the AC. Installed two on other house that has swamp cooler and up-dux ceiling vents. Best of all whirlybirds use no electricity and are easy to install.
Hope this helps

No Excuses September 14, 2023 - 11:59 AM - 11:59 AM

On hot days I keep my south facing huge windows long walls blacked out. And open cross flow windows and fan at night. Held steady at under $60/mo. I have only needed AC a couple times for a few minutes this summer. Use a portable fan on the 90+ days. It’s the Winters that keep me broke. I have great attic and wall insulation and double panes, but still use $300/mo for about 4 months HVAC to stay (almost) warm.

Captain Bebops September 14, 2023 - 12:21 PM - 12:21 PM

It was $118 over $10 more that the previous month. But I need to scrutinize what rates went up. For February my bill was $299, way too much. I learned that maybe a space heater might be better than a gas furnace. BTW, the gas part of the bill this last month as well as the previous was around $9.
.
BTW, there is an audit for the comparison between MCE and PGE supplying electricity if there is any advantage one way or the other. I’ve heard that the wind on the coast have had still days. Also just reported that PGE was trying get a hefty rate increase passed and apparently the commission passed a much lower increase. Will still get rooked but some of the blame must be passed to the Dementia Joe gang their war profits scheme.

Mombearto4 September 14, 2023 - 6:53 PM - 6:53 PM

50 or 60 something. I live alone (the dogs don’t count), don’t have an A/C (but I do have a swamp cooler), clothes dryer, or TV, and I don’t cook [using heat] much.

Cindy Hampton September 15, 2023 - 8:37 PM - 8:37 PM

Does anyone live in contra costa county? Everyone is getting 4-600.00 bills where are you all getting 80.00 bills from? On the nextdoor app in my area Everyone is outraged. I’m wondering where you all live? There is only one on here that sound like it could be my area. I have the care program and medical baseline which means I pay the lowest in my area. I’ve in a mobile home with my dogs and I and it’s well over 200.00
