Petty Theft – Vehicle. Is that stealing a vehicle or out of a vehicle? If you stole a candy bar out of someone’s car why wouldn’t that be worth at least two months in jail? You are thief and you have to pay for your thievery. Two candy bars four months in jail. If you spend four months in jail for taking two candy bars you will never steal again.

Ricardo —
— Killing someone in a hit-and-run with no priors, was a sentence of 2-years, not including time-off credits for good behavior.
— Killing someone in a hit-and-run while under the influence of illegal drugs and while in the progress of committing additional crimes, with 2-strikes due to prior convictions, was a sentence of 4-years, not including time-off credits for good behavior.
— This was a number of years ago, so I imagine in this current environment it’s even less time now.
— These sentences were and are an absolute insult to surviving family members and loved ones. It’s sentences like these that drive individuals into becoming vigilantes and taking “the law” into their own hands. A generally lawless society, with a multi-tiered “justice system” used to punish political enemies and protect criminals only breeds contempt and vigilantism.

Common sense could fix the problem so easily.
