On August 18, 2023, around 3:27 a.m., the Martinez Police Department received a report of a video alarm at Velvet, a cannabis dispensary, located at 4808 Sunrise Drive. While enroute, officers were advised of multiple subjects at the business along with two vehicles.
Officers arrived on scene around 3:32 a.m. and one of the vehicles, described as a white SUV, fled the scene. Officers broadcast that shots were fired and there was an assault on an officer. The second vehicle attempted to flee and then crashed into a fire hydrant. The two occupants of the vehicle were transported to the hospital.
Additional law enforcement agencies responded to secure the scene. The Martinez Police Department initiated an investigation with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office in accordance with the countywide protocol for officer-involved shootings. One officer is receiving treatment at the hospital for what is believed to be a minor injury.
The investigating agencies have responded with extensive resources to determine exactly what took place. The area where the incident occurred remains closed while crime scene investigators collect evidence. The officers involved were wearing body-worn cameras and footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
In situations like these, the expertise of private investigators can complement the efforts of official agencies. Private investigators bring a wealth of experience and specialized skills to the table, aiding in uncovering details that may otherwise go unnoticed. They can conduct parallel investigations, interviewing witnesses, and collecting additional evidence to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the incident. This collaborative approach between law enforcement and Canadian private investigators can help to bridge any gaps and ensures a more thorough investigation process.
Furthermore, private investigators in Vancouver are equipped to handle sensitive cases with discretion and professionalism. They often work in conjunction with legal teams and can provide valuable insights that support the official investigation. By reviewing body-worn camera footage and other critical evidence, these investigators can offer an objective perspective that enhances the overall accuracy of the findings. Their involvement underscores the importance of a multi-faceted approach to solving complex cases, ultimately contributing to the pursuit of justice and the restoration of community trust.
The investigation is in its early stages and ongoing. Further information is expected to be released this evening. Additionally, our understanding of the incident may change as more individuals are interviewed and evidence is collected and analyzed.

One criminal got killed
SCHMEE,
.
Four police officers were involved in the shooting.
and that means what exactly?
4 officers fired their weapons? 4 officers were present? Eventually 4 officers arrived at the scene of a shooting?!?
At LEAST 3 agencies responded, MPD, PHPD, & CCSO. Does that mean they were involved in the shooting or simply were at the scene of a shooting?
JANUS,
.
I said “four police officers were involved in the shooting.” I didn’t say 4 officers were present.” I didn’t say “eventually 4 officers arrived at the scene of a shooting.” I didn’t say “4 officers were simply at the scene of the shooting.” I didn’t say anything about other departments responding. I didn’t say other agencies “were simply at the scene of the shooting.” So why would you ask me if other agencies responding means “they were involved in the shooting”? You’ve already claimed you don’t understand what “involved in a shooting” means, yet you used those same words.” So, by asking me, you’ve also made it extremely clear that you’ve always known exactly what “involved in the shooting” means.
Guess they ran outta weed in Oakland again.
Obviously drug addicts were trying to break in and steal their supply!
Marijuana dispensaries are cash-only businesses. Federal law doesn’t allow them to use banks or accept credit cards. This place seemed to have a lot of customers, so criminals might assume the place would have a lot of cash on hand. A place called Stiizy is located not far away down Pacheco Blvd and it has been robbed multiple times over the past couple of years. The criminals aren’t going to these places to load up on gummies.
I live in Wisconsin formally of Concord and in Illinois where it’s legal I’ve used my debit card several times.
“I live in Wisconsin formally of Concord”
Where are you from informally? Should have just said no.
Wrong. Embarc on Alhambra accepts all types of payment including credit cards.
If it was cash only they wouldnt sell much, like any business.if they dont take cards they will lose most customers, nobody has or wants to spend cash these days.
Cards have been getting accepted just within the last couple of years, but your pony is still valid.
.
Remember, it’s “medicine”.
.
Stoopid voters of CA!
.
Once again the non MENSA brigade does crime.
Video surveillance software capable of sensing movement has been available for decades.
As predicted here before Prop 64 passed, POT businesses would attract criminal activity.
Nordstrom causes crime. Ban Nordstrom’s and Macys!
Stealing pot is just like stealing cash, stealing from Nordstroms is just a waste of time.
Stealing weed criminals are called drug addicts? Hahaha
That is the definition of an “addict” – someone that continues to use despite health, legal or social consequences. So yes, this example would fit that type of behavior
Stealing it to use it or stealing it to sell it….that makes the difference as far as addiction goes.
Who cares?
Either way they are criminals because they were stealing it, committing burglary & assaulting police officers.
BTW-
People can be addicted to pot as easily as they can be addicted to alcohol.
That isn’t opinion, it’s fact.
Those who claim otherwise are just drug addled users in denial.
@DR. JELLYFINGER….”…it gives you whole new way of looking at the day.” – P. Fonda
So this whole thing is screwed up from the start. Please do not get me wrong here about how people find their peace but if they did not allow these places to be legal then this would not be an issue. These places should have active security 24-7 as they are a target for this. In this situation there should be no circumstances where an officer should have to be involved in something that could potentially cause them harm. Piss poor planning by the goons in Ca capitol.
Glad to heat the Officer is ok!
.
Thank you MPD and S.O. for PERMANENTLY ridding society of a criminal.
.
The whole world is going to pot
Idiots … lazy … grow yer own … I been growing my own since junior high … #PineHollow1979-1980
Ohhhh. Were you that dude Alex in the Derby jacket and stoner shoes?
Who robs a place when theirs a county jail withing 2 miles away.
The fools at KTVU failed to recognize what it means for someone to act as armed with a weapon. When someone uses a car as a deadly weapon, that person is ARMED. You do not have to have a firearm to be consided armed. The liberal, biased media SUCKS!!!
The Marijuana in the days of old does not compare to what’s available today.
Isn’t this one of the canabis outlets that former Rep. George Miller’s son George Jt. opened up? As I understand George Miller himself, our former Congressman, is a silent partner in this canabis store, if not this one, than another one. In my town we have a couple of these stores – which draw criminal types and drug users. It’s not a good idea to allow these canabis outlets to pop up in suburban towns, they have had these types of stores in Oakland and SF – two cities that have become cesspools. We should, as a society, discourage drug use, not to promote drug use. This belief that pot smokers are all “nice people”, only using pot to ease pain is just a lot of nonsense. Criminals types use and abuse drugs, they traffic in drugs too. Criminal types break into canabis stores – all the time. Sadly, in my town of Concord, city officials were so enthusiastic to get in on the tax revenue canabis stores generate that these stores were greenlighted with maximum speed (Normally Concord city officails move at a snail pace, but not so when it came to canabis stores)
R. JOHNSON,
.
George Miller III and George Miller IV were able to use their name and influence to parlay a license out of the City of Martinez.
.
The expansion of cannabis in the City of Concord happened for two reasons, first, the State of California changed the law so cities and counties could no longer ban dispensaries from their jurisdictions, and second, at the time there were three Concord City Councilmembers who were pro-cannabis and pro-dispensaries.
They moved at a snail’s pace until the bribes started flowing and the friends, family, donors and silent partnerships got arranged. Then overnight all the guidelines, restrictions and regulations went out the window.
