Contra Costa Health said the department’s hazardous materials team is responding to a release of dust from the Martinez Refining Company.
Health department officials said material from the release is visible on the ground in surrounding neighborhoods.
CCH advises the public to avoid breathing or close contact with the material.
Here were go again . . . assuming it is more spent catalyst.
This was released from the Coker unit. It is Coke dust. I was working in the adjacent unit at the time of the release.

What’s the story with this type of chemical release?
Is this an automated process that just blows when a system is over loaded or is there a alarm or notification to alert employees to this prior to a release? WTF?
Everyone is concerned about a release of coke dust, eh? This is funny, considering people voluntarily expose themselves to coke dust every time they use charcoal brickettes (Kingsford/et al) for a BBQ. Left over coke gets put on a train (@Martinez and Benicia) and heads north to Oregon where Kingsford makes it into their famous charcoal, that y’all happily buy and burn (just think about all the coke soot getting on your nice piece of tri-tip…) FYI
Being a Martinez resident is like being a goldfish living beneath a chalk board in a school for slow kids who like to beat the dust out of the erasers right over the goldfish bowl.
