A 3 acre vegetation fire is burning near Whitecliff Way and Rudgear Rd, in Walnut Creek.
It appears the blaze was caused by illegal fireworks. It started around 9:30 p.m.
Use caution if you’re in the area.
UPDATE: Contra Costa Fire has just arrived to the scene of a 12-acre and growing fire near Mount Diablo in Walnut Creek, ConFire spokesperson Steve Hill said.
The blaze is in the area of 1900 Whitecliff Way and “has the potential to become a dangerous fire,” said Hill.
No evacuations have been ordered at this time, but Hill said that some residents in the area are evacuating on their own.
Cal Fire has been called in to assist, Hill said.
Residents in the area can monitor possible evacuations by going to CWSalerts.com.
This is a developing story.
UPDATE #2: Forward progress has been stopped. All crews are committed to mop up operations.
This is why in a previous post that I indicated fireworks in CCC should not be made legal – there is a shortage of “safe & sane” and responsible people. …… too many fires caused by illegal fireworks to count
Busy night for America’s heroes. Over 60 fires, most caused by fireworks. Hopefully the carnage and injuries were minimal. Always had a love hate relationship with the 4th back when I was active. As busy as it was here in CoCo County, I’m sure it was nowhere near the insanity I used to experience in Oakland on the 4th. Glad to be retired.
Last night’s fireworks show from New York was amazing. It’s closest competition was from the illegal fireworks show in Oakland. It went all night long.
I don’t believe our good citizens would light up a sparkler in the grassy fringes. It’s arson, lit by criminals. If it is the homeless, the surrounding hills would have been cleared of them.
