Police in American Canyon arrested three men from Antioch early Thursday morning suspected of robbing two 7-Eleven stores.
Around 1 a.m., the Vacaville Police Department advised that a red Chevrolet Impala had just been used to carry out an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven store there and was last seen heading to American Canyon.
American Canyon police officers began to look for the Impala and located it parked next to a 7-Eleven on Rio Del Mar near state Highway 29. The car was unoccupied, but men who matched the suspects’ descriptions were inside the store and it appeared that a robbery was in progress, police said.
The officer placed a tire deflation device under the Impala to deter the suspects’ exit before more police could arrive.
The three men left the convenience store and encountered American Canyon police, who ordered them to stop and get on the ground. One suspect, 19-year-old Younger Sampson, complied and was arrested but the other two suspects fled, police said.
The fleeing men, identified as 19-year-old Jaharri Wheatley and 20-year-old Deavion Ivory, led officers on a chase, with police alleging that Wheatley reached into his waistband “as if he was grabbing a firearm” as he ran.
Wheatley was able to circle back to the parked Impala, kick away the tire deflation device and drive away, police said.
Ivory was eventually found hiding in a nearby creek near the 7-Eleven.
Napa County sheriff’s deputies and a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew joined in on a pursuit of Wheatley as he fled south through American Canyon. On Flosden Road, Wheatley crashed into a center median but got out of his car and continued on foot, police said.
American Canyon police then dispatched its K-9 unit “Brick” and the dog apprehended Wheatley. Police allege the suspect “actively resisted and struggled” with the dog and officers when they attempted to arrest him and that a loaded, unregistered ghost gun fell to the ground from his hands during the altercation.
Wheatley was arrested and given medical attention, police said. He was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of felony reckless evading; felony threats of violence to police officers keeping them from doing their jobs; carrying a loaded, concealed firearm; and using a firearm during the commission of a felony.
As of Thursday afternoon, Wheatley remained in jail on $50,000 bail. Ivory and Sampson were taken to the Vacaville Police Department.
What interesting names the suspects had.
… I’m shocked 🙂
Good get the trash off the streets & since this didn’t happen in CCC maybe just maybe these POS get an extended stay where they belong behind bars far away from society
Is Antioch a hub for the activity, do the criminals base themselves there, and fan out to nearby communities, staying away from the rings in Oakland and SF? Curious as to what the turn out will be. Slap on the wrist? Month in a cell? A lecture telling them not to do it again (all the while the officer involved will get reprimanded for excessive use of a dog)? Not sure if Napa County’s DA Haley is like becton.
Good boy Brick.
Good work on the part of the officers. Now if the DA will just do as good a job, maybe these young men will have a wakeup call that will redirect their paths in life, one could hope.
Wow! Good Job to K-9 Brick for his role!
Bail seems pretty low, although he’ll probably have a hard time raising it anyway. Look at what he went through to avoid arrest, if he bails out, he’s gone.
Crazy low bail considering the risk the officers had to take, and the lengths the suspect took to attempt escape. Dangerous stuff.
Good boy “Brick”!
Hope Fido chewed off a leg.Good job!
The idea that he not only got arrested but got bit the hell up by a dog just makes me laugh. Why can’t we have dogs involved in all robbery cases. Part of the punishment of robbery should be dog attack
Being a clerk, especially late at night at a convenience store is one of the most dangerous jobs one can have. You just never know if it’s your time for a visit from creeps, perps, non-humans, or wastes of humanity.
Responded to a holdup gone bad at a 7/11, a teen late-night clerk was robbed and killed with a sawed-off shotgun, slumped behind the counter. For no reason than a few dollars.
Oh, will we never learn?
I’m beginning to think we won’t learn! With the crazy liberals pushing this agenda of criminals-come-first and never admitting the failure of their policies, but only pushing even further leniency, I don’t see any Improvement anytime soon. At least until your average citizen stops being so gullible and finally gets fed up and votes out all these liberal democrat officials and politicians.
Ivory claimed to be 99.44 percent pure while Wheatley insisted he was gluten free
Good job LE! …and Brick deserves some doggie bones! …now DA do your job and stop the Calif revolving door
How good is that dog? Cool video. The only thing that would be better is if they trained the dog to go for the neck.
That’s the best video I’ve seen in two years! While not trained to lock on the neck like a vampire, he dragged a grown-a$$ criminal like a rag doll. Awesome.
Commonality of the three, low intelligence, poor reasoning skills, poor impulse control, no job skills to offer an employer and zero empathy towards their victim.
Great image and great job from all law enforcement. Get the bad guys. K-9 Unit and Brick well done.
I was pumping gas at the safeway station in Pleasant Hill when I think these guys pulled into a spot that was just vacated instead of waiting in line. Maybe it wasn’t them, just looked like them. They got five dollars worth of gas and left.
I enjoy watching the fur missles do their jobs!
The kids were just having some fun. Y’all need to chill.
Surprised that no one mentioned LEF placing a tire deflation devise under the car that was eventually kicked away. Stab the tire, more effective and quick.
