QUESTION: Do you think the state of California will ever go back to giving criminals real jail/prison time for crimes such as shoplifting, burglary, etc.?

IOW, the public is so ticked off about this change will be needed. Don’t accept the willy-nilly heads that got themselves elected to public off to do much about it, but put pressure on them anyway. OTOH, the root of the problem is a screwed up economy where money is wasted on wars of empire so people steal to survive. Stop making the rich richer from war.

If repealing prop 47 makes it to the ballot in November and it passes, that will be a good start.
546,651 were required, June 11 secretary of state announced initiative had qualified for the ballot. The campaign submitted at least 652,100 valid signatures. It will be up to the voters, do we putting our state back the way it was before woke DEM male bovine excrement screwed it up.

I can say 4 of my neighbors have had cars stolen now. One person got mugged. One person had a house invasion. So these individuals have changed their minds a lot.
Only if and when the voters wise up and start voting the Dems out of office. It boggles my mind how many liberal DA’s in the state are refusing to prosecute, how many liberal judges are refusing to hand down stiffer penalties, how many liberal mayors, and liberal police chiefs are ordering their cops to stand down, and how many foolish Democrats will keep voting for the same corrupt officials.
Gavin Newsom is cutting back on prison personnel, defunding the police and granting tens of thousands of inmates an early release from prison, so the state can afford to give free health care and free education to the illegal invaders that have no legal right to be in our country. Gavin Newsom is nothing more than an evil narcissist.

It will take some time. It is critical to have District Attorneys who are willing to aggressively prosecute shoplifters and car thieves. And some components of Prop 47 have to be repealed.
We’re not likely to see a Republican elected to statewide office for a long time given the current state of the Republican Party. Therefore political pressure must be kept up on the statewide office holders (especially governor and attorney general). Pressure also need to be kept up on municipal and county officials.

I’m a registered Independent, but you can’t possibly believe the California Electorate is blameless here.
Pay attention because there is lots of chatter about replacing Dementia Joe for Pretty Boy Newsom in the November election.
The problem is we can pass all the laws we want but Newsom is closing prisons and turning criminals loose by the ton weight.
DAs like Becton and that harridan in Alameda county are doing their best to keep crooks out of jail and rehabilitate people that have never been habilitated .

If it was obvious to anyone with two brain cells to rub together that the charges were politically motivated, yes.
While the public is totally fed up with crime and criminals beibg catered to,- the supermajority democrats in the state government, and DAs and judged have a different agenda and they’re probably going to try to ignore the public as long as they can while they’re pushing their agenda through. Remember this at election time!

Enough people will become fed up with the ongoing, un-punished, crime and they will wise up enough to vote out the soft on crime politicians.
Either it’s going to have to change, or with how angry and fed up people have become with it, and the lack of how the system is working under the lunacy of the democrats we will start seeing vigilante justice making a rise. And that’s something we all should fear

Sadly, the voting public is getting exactly the same results at each election cycle by continuing to elect the same slate of politicians guaranteeing the same results over & over. Not until voters realize that they are responsible for the current sad state of affairs in this once great state will our fortunes improve.
Democrat or Republican, now is the time to take a really hard look at why our state is in such decline and cast your votes for the candidates of either party who have a good common sense approach to government and rid ourselves of those who cannot govern wisely.
Voters have a chance to turn around much of damage Prop 47 did.

I have never seen CA in worse shape than I do now. I remember a time where I wouldn’t second guess buying tickets for a concert in SF or be too concerned about attending an event at the Paramount Theatre Oakland but now I am. The benefits outweigh the risks for criminals in CA so their mindset is ‘why not?’ We lock up toothpaste and not criminals in our state. Meanwhile the law-abiding citizens are the ones suffering as we cater to the criminals.We really needed a new DA and sadly there was the most pathetic turn out for that election.
