Concord Police “Click It or Ticket” Campaign Reminds Residents To Always Wear Their Seat Belts

Concord Police Department reminds everyone to always buckle up and keep children in child safety seats.

This year’s Click It or Ticket campaign is from May 22 -June 4. During this time, the Concord Police Department will have additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt. This includes vehicles where children are not secured in child safety seats.

“Wearing a seat belt should be an automatic for all drivers and passengers, Lt. Gregory Rodriguez said. “It’s the safe thing to do, especially when it comes to securing children in child safety seats.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 12,000 people killed in crashes throughout the country in 2021 were not wearing seat belts. In California, 756 people killed in crashes in 2020 were not wearing seat belts, or nearly 20 percent of all traffic deaths statewide.

California law requires a child to be secured in a safety or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old or at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall. Children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is
40 or more inches tall.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This is the biggest pile of bs I’ve seen in a while. Half of the people on the road are driving on a suspended license in a beat up nineteen ninety something pile with paper plates. And they have time for this? Concord PD, way more trash to clean up than this. I’ll pay seatbelt tickets all day.

How about a campaign to ticket RED LIGHT RUNNERS?

Can you imagine how much revenue PD would bring in if they ticketed 2-3% of red light runners in this town?

A few years ago in Walnut Creek, I drove out of a parking lot onto Broadway and clicked it. A cop parked across the street saw me do this, pulled me over, and gave me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt. He said I shouldn’t have left the parking lot without my belt fastened. I took it to court and told the judge that I “clicked it” and still got a ticket. The final result was that it was a chump ticket, but I should have fastened myself in first before leaving the lot. The judge cut my fine in half.

What a waste of time! Go after the “red light runners”. They are everywhere. So dangerous.

Not wearing a seatbelt is just stupid. Any injuries sustained in an accident that would have been prevented or reduced had you been wearing your seatbelt should not be covered by your insurance. Of course this assumes that you have insurance, which I realize is not a reasonable assumption.
How about using your turn signals? It is so bad, that even if I see someone actually using them, I assume it is by accident.
If all of the bad, distracted and “recreationally medically impaired” drivers were off of the road there would be no traffic because there would be a lot fewer cars and accident rates would plummet.

Perhaps this campaign is a PSA for the new 1 million illegal aliens who have crossed our border the past 4 months. We would not want them to disobey the law requiring they wear a seat belt while driving. Why have laws if they will not be enforced. That would be bad.

Really? …. there’s noting more important to watch for and investigate?! ridiculous……

Go after the smaller crimes and use them as an opportunity to get the bigger fish. For example, the other day I saw a vehicle with no plate (no paper, nothing!) and nonfunctioning brake light. We should pull that person over! What else could be wrong with that car .. or the driver.

Ted Bundy was caught because he did not have his headlights on when driving with his ‘tools’ in his vehicle.
Son of Sam (Berowitz) was caught because he received a parking ticket near one of his crimes.
The Co-Ed Killer (Kemper) was caught because of a broken tail light while carrying one of his victims in his car.
The Freeway Killer (Kraft) was pulled over for erratic driving.

I don’t need to catch a serial killer for vehicle code violations, I would be happy to get some of the lower level crooks out of society and put where they belong. But there in lines the rub … we need our local DA’s to prosecute and force jail time for these criminals.

.
I’m a law abiding citizen but I always say, “Don’t give police officers ANY reason to pull you over”.
.
But criminals, dirtbags, low lifes, thugs, and felons are too stupid and ignorant to understand this simple guideline.
.
As Han Solo said to Chewbacca while approaching the forest moon of Endor, “Just fly casual”.

I’ve never quite understood the resistance to wearing seat belts. Is it an act of defiance to the government? I can think of things far more crucial to protest than wearing a seat belt. Better to spend your time organizing protests and acts of defiance against those things. Yeah, there are certainly accidents that a seat belt won’t save you from but they are very rare.

My first car didn’t have seatbelts. Later cars had lap belts but not shoulder belts, and I got in the habit of using them for long trips. In hindsight, most wrecks happen closer to home. Then I had an Oldsmobile with separate lap and shoulder belts. The shoulder belt was never worth the extra effort. After that, cars all had integrated lap and shoulder belts. By the time we started having kids, they were convinced that the car couldn’t start until all the seatbelts were clicked.

So, I always use my seatbelt, but I don’t think they should be giving tickets for not wearing them. Just because something seems like a good idea, it doesn’t necessarily need a law.

If you are a short person of 4’ 8” ,
You have to be in a car seat?

No, a stroller. 😊

How about a couple of other campaigns that will make driving safer for the law abiding:

Register it or Relinquish it.

Insure it or Impound it.

Did he happen to be with a construction worker, a cowboy, an Indian and a leather clad biker? He may not have been a real cop.

My first cars did not have seatbelts. My parents were proud of my older brother when he installed seatbelts in his car, they did not know the belts were required for drag racing. I have always used seatbelts because it’s my neck.
