A child severely injured his hand during a mishap with what appeared to be some type of explosive device in Pleasant Hill on Monday afternoon, according to a witness.

Here’s the information, from a resident who lives nearby the scene.

Just before 3pm today (4/17), I heard a loud explosion that shook my home in Pleasant Hill, and then heard yelling outside.

Out on the canal trail, four kids from Pleasant Hill Middle School were walking home and had lit a “device” they said they found (I believe they said on the baseball field at the school). I believe one kid “lit” it with a match….and it exploded.

The kid who had been holding it was down on the ground. Blood and “matter” (tissue, etc) was scattered on the trail….the kid was missing multiple fingers.

I sincerely hope the kid is okay. It was a very poor decision on their part but I really wish they could have learned this lesson a different way.

that is so sad

Same thing happened in San Mateo yesterday with some middle schoolers. If you’re going to do something stupid you should be safe about it don’t hold explosive devices in your hand

I’m so terribly sorry! My son lost some fingers from an explosive accident. If you would like someone to talk with email me.
