Have you seen the new mural on the Willow Pass Rd. side of the Brenden Theater building in Downtown Concord?
The mural, created by artist John Horton, focuses on “a female heroine, as the focal subject, in a modern aesthetic that feels futuristic. Within the imagery the hero takes action in a ‘choose your own adventure’ for the viewer, intriguing them to wonder where the hero is going,” according to the artist.

Concord is a unique Bay Area city in my opinion for reasons like this.
That’s funny because I would argue that this is no different than what other cities are doing to show the whatever current thing or approved messaging

It could have been way worse. This is not bad at all thank god her caption is not some woke inclusion cr@p because all of us normal people are sick of that and when I say we are sick of it….
Maybe we can contract him to spruce up the bridge on Willow Pass, where the current theme is “Homeless Garbage”.

All the Murals are welcomed and enjoy seeing all the diverse style from the Artists.
It’s nice but I think the history of Todos Santos to Concord should be a moral. Whatever the artist was feeling is only temporary, but the history of Concord is forever.
As an art piece, it’s interesting and I like it. As a giant public mural, it seems a little angry.
Red, black and white colors? Seems a little color blind to me …
Not seen it in person but considering its location I thought it was a super ad for a movie.
I prefer beautiful architectural features. Not fond of this (or the oversized bald head impeding the sidewalk in WC). I have never felt that the behemoth Brendan Theater was in harmony with the Todos Santos vibe.
I curse these artist every time I see their work – because I’m jealous of their talent!!
There is also a smaller painting on the same building across from I Love Teriyaki. Also very nice.

It looks cartoonish. There are other artists with the same name, but this John Horton seems to specialize in murals. After looking at Mr Horton’s other murals on Google, I’m guessing a cartoonish look was his intention. But then, I am not aesthetic either.
I would rather look at the giant dinosaur on top of the old Keenan Heinz Company building on East St. in Downtown Concord when it was there.
Did the people of Concord have a choice or vote on this mural?
Brenden Theater paid for the mural. It’s better than a blank wall.
I think it’s all up to the individual. I went the Louve and saw the Mona Lisa – 10 seconds was enough and I moved on. I was far more impressed and captured by the Banksy art around town.
@claycord.com – sorry to disagree; however, in this case a blank wall is better or why not paint something uplifting and colorful and not so doom and gloom or just paint some trees and plants. Sometimes less is best.
Whether you like whatever message you are taking from this or not. The talent to do this is amazing and creative. This artist is truly gifted.
