Got to realize that part of the BART board is really wacky! They are the ones that thought it was a good idea to let homeless and the rest just ride the trains for free to keep them off the streets in cold or extra hot weather. It’s true check discussions at their past meetings. They also supported letting all the inner city youth jumped the fare Gates out of compassion. But those same you started robbing people which caused a further decline in good ridership.. we got to stop being woke, and wake up!
$1.5 billion in Federal funds to make sure the overtime didn’t stop. The BART board made a bad deal with their employees at last contract. They couldn’t afford it then, can’t afford it now or into the future. Salary freeze and pension/lifetime medical reform needed before anymore revenue.
The politically easier path is always to distribute the cost among millions of taxpayers, rather than address the cost overruns at the problem source. Taxpayers will grumble and pay it, wheras BART will strike and unions will threaten to stop donating to the politicians if they attempt to reform them.
There is a 100% chance we the taxpayer eat this cost.
This is why government workers and monopoly companies/utilities should not be allowed to unionize. Too much concentration of power.

Do not trust anything BART says. As late as last September 2022 they released initial artist renderings of their 22 billion dollar expansion including another tunnel under the bay toward Jack London Square part of what is called the Link21 program. See link21program.org

I heard him speak on ABC7 GA today – he was blasting BART…. I was cheering him… he doesn’t trust BART anymore either… ABC7 was trying to subtly challenge him – he stood his ground well

I’m all for letting the hobos ride BART for free…. but only on westbound trains.
