The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Today’s question:

Sooner or later, the major store theft (grab & run of a lot of products at once) will have to come to an end. Whether the stores permanently close, lock everything up, or district attorneys actually start prosecuting the criminals responsible, it has to come to an end at some point in time.

QUESTION: How do you think it will end?

Talk about it….

It’s Real Simple and it’s worked Throughout History: There’s a thing called Law & then there’s consequences and JAIL.

We can ask any 1st grade for a solution & it would be better than these Ridiculous DAs.

63

Heard on the news last night. The Pittsburg Target store on Century blvd will be closing. They cited organized retail theft and employee safety.

When there are actual consequences for the thefts. The people have been patiently waiting for our DA to toughen up laws and sentencing. If not, lighten the penalty for taking the law into our own hands. This is ridiculous! I remember when I was a kid that theft was a crime!

56

It’s too late. It’s going to get worst. Next it will be more innocent people get robbed, hurt, or killed.
Welcome to the Wild-Wild-West across the USA. Freedom will be gone.
So, anyone have an answer?, …that will work? Please Share.

I agree with almost all of everyone’s comments, on once and for all restoring law and order. Without that, you have total mayhem like we have been experiencing with the rampant smash and grabs for quite some time. Regarding Gavin Newsom, if anyone votes for him for anything after what he did to California, they truly want to continue the further decline of the country. I also agree with an earlier comment that rest of the country will have more intelligent voters to avoid him seeking office of any kind. And anyway, all you have to do is visit S.F.,L.A.,Sacramento, and many other cities which he has left in ruins…

29
1

Newsom was a Cocaine addict in the 70’s and probably puts away his fair share of weed these days. Did anyone really expect a more upstanding moral disposition from him?

Things would be better if it WAS the WWW. Then you could shoot thieves, rightfully so. THAT would stop them.

8
1

Stores will close.
Or…we could borrow a page from Sharia law and chop off the hands of three-time offenders.

41

Three? Why not one? If a person is caught three times no one has any idea how many times they didn’t get caught.

19
1

Or shoot on sight? Why keep giving chances? Jail is no deterrent. They get free healthcare, college classes, TV, visitors, etc.

12

Adopt the laws and penalties of Singapore.

Much like the sideshows, I don’t think the flash mob style theft will end anytime soon. It’s too much fun for large groups of some of today’s poorly raised youth to get on their phones, pick a spot and let the mayhem commence. As for the grab and runs by small groups or individuals, the cure would be to bring the hammer down and get tough with the penalties but that isn’t happening anytime soon with the current crop of DA’s and Politicians. I think a lot of stores will simply close up shop permanently or convert to online shopping only. It’s too bad good moral character and honesty is in such short supply these days. That always worked in the past.

35

The only way it ends is if there is some sort of epiphany regarding left wing politics and
the effect it is having all across the country. The George Floyd effect is a huge factor in
destroying law and order, perpetrated by the hard left-Obama, Soros et. al. It appears to
be working as planned.
We’ve got a long way to go toward normalcy.

8
1

Armed guards with permission to shoot! Second choice canning by owner or store employees.

33
3

When all the stores are gone

27

That is their plan. So they can be in control of doling out resources. And, everyone gets the same no matter what kind of lazy scum they are.

10
2

It’ll come to an end when elected officials, judges, and district attorneys support law and order, prosecute crimes, and impose harsh and extended prison time.
.
Voters need to repeal Proposition 47.
.
Governor Newscum made a BIG MISTAKE emptying the prisons because of its cost. Now the public and businesses are suffering the consequences of his bad decisions.
.
Just think how bad it will be if Newscum extends his policies across the nation as POTUS!! It would be the death of America as we know it.
.

48
7

How much are you willing to contribute to build more prisons and pay the salaries of the guards and staff? I favor longer community service projects like cleaning park bathrooms, street sweeping, yard work, etc.

2
27

.
Youre naive. We as a society are paying the price right now.
.
Sometimes it’s just not dollars and cents… pleae tell us how “quality of life” is measured intrinsically.
.
By the way, we were already paying for prisons and corrections staff. And your feel good chores would also need to be supervised – a small span of control. Better to lock em up and supervise en mass.

11

You really think longer community sentences will work? LMAO you are delusional…

10

That POS would never be elected POTUS. I have faith that the rest of the country is smarter than California’s voters!!!

31
4

Most of the smash-and-grab thefts are done by young people recruited via social media by organized groups. Neither the young thieves nor these groups are recent California parolees.

A guy choked to death a shoplifter and he is charged with murder. Just today. My thought is if the city can’t stop it they should be charged. We can’t let this lawlessness continue it is killing our country.

22

When ?? When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with mars. Then peace will guide the planets. And love will steer the stars

12
2

“When ??”
.
When the shrooms take hold.

Great song that came from the musical “Hair.” As a young teenager, I loved the Fifth Dimensions’ cover.

1. when we vote out lenient progressive incumbents that do not provide any consequence to crime or if that doesn’t happen …. 2. residents, business owners, etc. take things in their own hands to provide a consequence that will probably be more severe

22
1

Law and Order, harsh prosecution and verdicts, long prison terms, harsh prisons, armed security, armed citizens, tough DA’s and judges, respectable politicians, the return to good character traits, allowing G-d back into schools, patriotism, and the end of listening to bleeding hearts.

23
2

it won’t end, its too easy and the punishment is basically nonexistence. Why pay like a normal person when you can just take it, keep the good stuff for yourself, sell whatever you don’t need on the FB marketplace. That’s all they do, no consequences

15
1

I really hate to go to a store and find a clerk to unlock the display just to check to see if the item I’m interested in is going to work. But that is the current choice. Otherwise if I blindly order it online it may not work and I have get in the car and drop the package off to return.
.
Solution? Logically return to the old way of handling shoplifters and making it worth their time. But there are all kinds of problems there too. Maybe population reduction is a solution.🙄
.
We live not in interesting times but strange times.

12
1

(correction) “and making it not worth their time”

7
1

When all the stores are gone they’ll just come to your house…which I see happens quite often nowadays

17
1

Locking the doors remotely to stop the mobs from leaving the store, video cameras for evidence gathering so they can’t simply drop the goods and claim to be shoppers and local police patrolling for quicker response. GPS locators on some expensive items in case they get into a car. And prosecution with arduous community service for the non-violent thieves.

4
10

Unfortunately that’s not what you voted for. Maybe it’s time to recognize the real problem is YOU.

17
2

Rooftop Koreans.

22
1

I just read that Hunter Biden and Newscum are BUDDIES!
Look it up.

14
3

When Gavin Newsom and Biden are out of office.

28
3

It is naive to think that thieves will stop stealing just because there’s a different president and governor. Thieves are thieves (at least those that are repeat offenders) they don’t care about politics, certainly not to the extend that they will change their way of life.

3
6

When family members of DA’s are confronted by friends as to why their family member DA allowed such idiocy in the first place. And when said DA’s and politicians can’t shop any more.

15
1

Hah! Target just announced they are closing nine stores, three which are located SF, Oakland and Pittsburg. Hah! Take that low lifes. Now where yo mama gonna shop? Didn’t think about that did ya!!!

26
2

This ends one of two ways, either we return to arresting, prosecuting, and aggressively sentencing perpetrators, or the vast majority of retail stores will close.

27
1

When they shoot and ask questions later.

26
1

Best answer

21
1

We can only wish that would happen.

3
1

If the politicians really wanted this to end, it would. The political class wants to limit your choices as much as possible so they can control who you are. That’s why the corona virus was running rampant in the mom and pop stores but magically left the chain stores alone. Now the chain stores are slowly being shut down so Bill Gates can tell you where to shop for the products he has invested in. Stop voting for the same people and their buddies who have been around forever to represent you.

25
4

Society must get back to a time when children were taught that actions, whether negative or positive, have consequences. It’s my understanding that schools are no longer suspending nor expelling kids. It’s also my understanding that there has been a push to get rid of juvenile detention facilities. What makes anyone think that someone will start following laws as soon as they become of legal age if they were never expected to follow rules when young?
In 1994, California enacted the 3 strikes law as a response to the murders of Polly Klass and Kimberly Reynolds.
Prosecuting these criminal mobs is not only about protecting businesses and our economy, it is also about having a functioning society where children can grow up feeling safe. Safety = opportunities.

26
1

Also, Rite Aid is filing Chapter 11 and will close 500 stores. CVS is expected to close 900 stores. Walgreens will be following next. We all know that all of our local pharmacies have been robbed.
I guess allowing mobs to run rampant to the point where pharmacies are choosing to close stores and move everything online could be a plan to make us all become customers of those dispensary cafes that are being pushed to get approved.

16
2

I don’t know. It sucks and it’s sad. Maybe 1% of the people having 70% of all available money for themselves or under their control isn’t a good model? 🤷

6
20

This ends when/if President Obama is not re-elected in 2024.
And if you think Biden is actually the current president, that explains why America is circling the drain.
P.S. I truly look forward to the V.I.’s comments. Boo!

20
3

And the V.I.’s comment (above) is just as expected.
At some point, the choice to be stupidly naive becomes dangerous.
Dropping the dummy act and voting like an Adult could actually clear up much of what ails the U.S.

1
1

1. When the citizens mass protest by paying for nothing, thus quickly forcing the corporations hand.

2. When “secure stores” become norm where everything is behind armored glass like banks and pharmacies

3. When mandatory universal digital ID is implemented and required for store entrance.

10
1

Leave valid ID at the front door as you walk in, and you get it back AFTER you pay.

No ID, no soup for you. My business, my rules….simple as that.

11
2

The Pittsburg Target store is closing on October 21st.

11
3

Where did you hear this Black Knight? Just curious I read that there stores being shut down in SF & Oakland but nothing on the Pitt location.

And after 10/21 the mobs will just make their way over to the PH and WC stores. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Egyptian laws cut off the hands of thieves. We don’t need to go that far. Um. Maybe we should.

17

Nobody wants to fix anything. They want it all burned down so they can build back better with the WEF and global government running everything. The sooner you see it, the sooner we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.

19
2

Things will change when business protects their assets like banks protect their assets. Armed guards and quick response by police. Some banks hire off duty police as guards or even armed tellers, some businesses can easily afford to do likewise.
Stop playing nice with those thugs.

11
1

Privatize … similar to Sam’s Club concept … create entrances/exits with no way to escape … and of course fire every DA, police chief, mayor, and all other government leaders who refuse to do their duty to enforce rule of law.

18
1

It will slow down when WE reimagine criminal justice. There used to be laws that most people followed, but then so-called activists became District Attorneys through PAC money donated from people like George Soros. Liberal Judges took it upon themselves to make up excuses for bad behavior by reducing and imposing their who views instead of actually following the current laws already on the books. Many voters bought into this nonsense and feel-good ideas and blindly voted for Prop 47 and other Props which both reduced prison populations and consequences for committing crimes. Increase in crime was a direct result of AB 109. PLEASE thank State Attorney General Rob Bonta and Governor Newsom who are more focused on proper pronouns, illegal aliens, and transgender issues instead of what really matters.

12

We are experiencing a sociological experiment coupled with propaganda.
As a way to get out the minority vote by promoting victim hood.
Conditioning to foster anger, envy while instilling a sense of being owed.
Enforced in recent election years by repeatedly dangling carrot of free money, “reparations”.
In presidential election years of late a dead black convicted Felon is elevated to martyrdom as excuse for riots, looting and arson.

Country has become a toy of the mega rich.
CoCo county DA has become world famous,

@Original G
Yep. And that is just what obama wanted. We are experiencing obama’s America.
And the fools have gone along.
So long, America.

This will end when the people vote in a DA interested in prosecuting the laws on the books, this will come to an end when the filth that are committing these crimes are held accountable. Pretty simple pretty easy not rocket science…

12

Curious question. It is sad that this is actually a serious question, because of the prevalence of these smash and grabs. I do not think this will stop in these large democrat cities until all the stores are closed down. We have already seen large national chains close down stores in certain areas (san fran, chicago, etc.). If innkeepers/employees try to protect their merchandise, they get beaten, arrested, lose their employment and/or killed. There was a recent video from Philly of the ransacking of a couple stores. Dozens of people running out of the store with armfuls of property; police have to wrestle with one or 2. There is no winning this, not without the use of iron tools and rapidly moving projectiles, which is why, until all the stores are closed. then they will move on to houses, where castle doctrine supported by said iron tools can provide some prevention.

When the concept of “mass incarceration” dies out.

2
2

I for one would LOVE to hear you expound on that

4
1

“Shoplifters Will Be Prosecuted To The Fullest Extent Of The Law”
Remember this sign? The stores will discontinue the present welcoming attitude by requiring ID to enter and restricting exit thru turnstile gates. The crooks are imprisoning us.

It won’t. We used to shoot horse thieves. We used to have Lynch mobs for criminals. We used to have consequences. Now our police have their hands tied and liberal politicians want to coddle the criminals instead of punish them. Time to bring back Dirty Harry and Judge Roy Bean.

12

And that, Hanne, perfectly illustrates why the democrat politicians (ie, liberals) are fully responsible for this crime wave….and those ultimately responsible are the idiots who voted and elected them to office.

So liberals – YOU are directly responsible for this crime. Don’t try to deflect.

It’s all gonna move to online retailers. Honestly, I don’t long paying a few extra bucks to have it delivered to my doorstep and it creates a couple extra jobs for delivery drivers, product pickers, and sorters and such. The only ones who will suffer are the technologically inept.

1
2

*I don’t mind, not long

While it eliminates multiple jobs of employees who staff the brick and mortar store. Good plan.

3
1

Who’s staffing them now? Last time I went to Safeway on Contra Costa all check out lanes were closed and only self checkout was open. As a personal preference, I hate the self checkout. I don’t work for Safeway, why should I do the work for them?

That store is open from 9am until 2 am. I’m certain you experienced this during peak business hours, right?

Was this a big problem when almost everyone had functional income? So once again it’s the economy that is the problem and we know who has messed with it.

Prop 47 was passed because courts and jails were filled with petty crime cases. I recall that years ago a local cop explained that the Claycord crowd has Prop 47 wrong. From what I recall you can’t continually commit such petty crimes until you get prosecuted. Folks here hate 47 but they also hate high taxes which would also be the result of prosecuting shoplifting crowds. Crowds, at least but if there is an occasional incident then like it days of yore the security officer or even the manager can take care of the incident.

With a functional economy where everyone has ample income then shoplifting would definitely shrink. Right now as one pointed out above a small percent of the population control the majority of the wealth. Why do we let that continue? Really, we vastly outnumber them. And those are not necessarily the “job creators” since new jobs come from innovation of new small startups until a big fish comes along and acquires them.

In my field people went for training in the field without any knack for it just because it pays well. Now employers are finding there is a vast supply of useless job candidates. Test for what people have a knack for rather than something that just pays well or at all. People doing what they are interested in are good employees making good products or creating great content.

Right now society is wacked out so it will be difficult to solve the problem.

1
3

Labor for reduced sentences. Voluntary. After a few years off the dope and sweating the toxins out, they may even be able to find work in the real world.

Grid of Bectin.

When Trump or a Republican is back in Office.

It ended for me by moving out of state.

Getting rid of prop 47 would be a good start, but I doubt that will happen.

We need to go all “Body Snatcher Alien” on them.
Whenever we spot a shoplifter everyone has to point and scream at them as we all rush forward & tear him/her to kitten scraps.
