I like the “then” picture better.
Right around that corner & down the street was a doughnut shop my grandpa used to take me to.
I’d eat my doughnut while grandpa would speak to his buddies in Spanish. Must’ve been alot of dirty jokes because they were always laughing it up.
I am assuming your Grandfather was Spainish. My Grandfather was also Spainish and hung out at the donut shop.
My grandparents used to own a donut shop in Pittsburg, long before I was born. I believe it was spudnuts. They also had a soda shop downtown.
Pittsburg was nice 40 years ago. Then came democrats…
To left of Klein’s on E 5th Street was Service hardware, I roamed the isles while adults visited
On Railroad Ave. across from Klein’s was barber shop my Dad would take me to that had mirrors on wall behind barber chairs and on opposite wall which gave infinity reflection.
Agree, old view is more pleasing to the eye.
Saddest part is that all the windows appear to be papered over in the 2022 shot.
The building on the right is now a book store, the building on the left is La Veranda they had a fire. They are now open again. I was over there for the seafood festival a few weeks
La Veranda is back?! I had about given up on them. I’ve been there once, and it was good, however when I returned, they had the fire and closed down.
The best thing about the current picture……….it ain’t Antioch!
Both my parents grew up in Pittsburg. They loved it there back in the day.
Mekos Market. The Playhouse. The Cellar bar. The Cardenelli bakery. The hotdog place next to the park.
During rough times for old downtown Pittsburgh.
