Police Announce Charges Filed In Walnut Creek Residential Burglary Case – 35-Year-Old Pittsburg Man Faces Several Felonies

The following information is from the Walnut Creek Police Dept.:

Arrested: Eduardo Cortes-Rodriguez (35 year old resident of Pittsburg)
Charges: PC 459, PC 29800(a)(1), PC 30305(a)(1), PC 487(d)(2)

Arrest Made and Charges Filed in Residential Burglary Case

Charges have been filed in connection with a residential burglary in Walnut Creek.

On January 25, 2023, at 5:15 pm, Walnut Creek Police officers responded to a residential burglary that just occurred near Bayberry Dr. and Perada Dr. The suspect kicked a door to gain entry, stole a firearm, and ran toward Treat Blvd. on the Ygnacio Canal Trail.

Walnut Creek Patrol Officers, Detectives, and Officers from Concord PD all responded to check the area for the suspect. Witnesses told officers the suspect dropped the firearm on the trail, which officers were able to recover.

Officers located the suspect, Eduardo Cortes-Rodriguez, walking on Oak Grove Rd. in Concord and were able to detain him and link him to the burglary. After further investigation, Cortes-Rodriguez was arrested on multiple charges and then booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. At this time, the police department is still investigating other residential burglaries and it is unknown if Cortes-Rodriguez is involved in those cases.

On January 30, 2023, this case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office for review and the following charges were filed against Cortes-Rodriguez:

PC 459, First Degree Burglary
PC 29800(a)(1), Felon in possession of a Firearm
PC 30305(a)(1), Felon in possession of Ammunition
PC 487(d)(2), Grand Theft of a Firearm

Cortes-Rodriguez is still in custody on $135,000 bail.

He is a Felon??? Wow, imagine that. Hey leaders that keep talking about reducing gun violence, get these people in jail!

Felon with a gun what a surprise and newscum wants to make people get insurance And change where you can legally carry a gun. Yet they constantly arrest felons with a gun. The shooter in halfmoon bay was here on a green card and was able to buy a gun, dont see them changing that.

He’s just a mistunderstood guy who needed a gun to steal food for his family. I’m sure he’ll be promptly released to continue his life of crime.

‘Faces several felonies’. That means next to nothing, these days.

Sad but true. They release them so fast (why?) and then wonder why crime is in the increase. So many arrested are repeat offenders. Need to go back to Three Strikes and You’re Out.
