DIRTY DINING: Dead Fish In Crockett Reopens After Closure Due To Evidence Of Vermin Infestation

The Dead Fish restaurant, located in the Town of Crockett, reopened on Dec.17 after a one-day closure due to evidence of a vermin infestation, according to the Contra Costa County Environmental Health Department.

As we previously reported, a video was circulating the internet showing two rats inside the dining area of the restaurant.

The Dead Fish responded, saying “With the weeklong dredging at the waterfront below, pulling up old lumber pilings, boats etc., the homeless encampment below the restaurant, winter landscaping of cutting back shrubs and trees, along with roof work the day prior, caused this one-time occurrence. We do not have rats.”

The Health Department’s inspection report from Dec.16, 2022 showed the following:

• Dead Fish said they had an exterminator come on Nov.22, 2022. The exterminator found one dead mouse and rodent droppings.
• On Dec.13, 2022, an exterminator found two dead rats on snap-traps in the basement and kitchen.
• No live or dead rodents were found during the Health Department’s inspection on Dec.16, 2022, but there was evidence of rodents.
• The lids on the flour, rice/dry bulk food containers had less than 10 fresh vermin droppings.
• Old vermin droppings were located.
• A pest control company inspects the restaurant at least once a month.

The Health Department re-inspected the restaurant on Dec.17, and they were allowed to reopen.
