The Concord Planning Commission on Wednesday will discuss a proposal to demolish the former Claim Jumper restaurant to make way for a new Chick fil-A.
The proposed 4,974-square-foot restaurant would have a drive through and sit on 1.2 acres within the Willows Shopping Center at 1981 Diamond Boulevard.
The planning commission will decide whether to approve a land use permit and site review and a tree removal permit.
Of the site’s 52 trees, 21 would be removed for the project. The report says the company would provide tree protection measures for remaining trees, and 59 new trees.
Developer 4G Development & Consulting submitted a preliminary application on Dec. 16, 2021 to demolish the vacant Claim Jumper and construct a Chick fil-A with dual drive-through lanes.
According to a staff report for Wednesday’s meeting, the city and applicant held a neighborhood meeting on Jan. 6, 2022 which no neighbors attended.
The site would also feature an outdoor patio and a drive through queuing for approximately 43 vehicles. It will employ 50 to 75 full-time and part-time employees.
Chick-fil-A has over 2,800 restaurants in 47 states.
The Concord Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the council chamber at civic center, 1950 Parkside Drive.

There’s also a new Chick-Fil-A going in soon in Pleasanton, on Hopyard Road. It won’t be a drive-through, though.
I’m afraid what traffic on Diamand Blvd is going to look like once this opens.
Agreed. Getting in and out of the Willows is already harrowing as many park there instead of attempting to find a spot at the Veranda. And now they are adding drive through clutter? Have we not seen the nightmare that is the In n’ Out parking lot in Pleasant Hill?

I have never cared for drive-through restaurants. When I go to Chick-fil-a, I park and go inside to get my meal. I have noticed that Chick-fil-a does a lot of business here in middle Tennessee, but they have mastered the drive-through issue better than any other restaurant. Between their double-wraparound pattern and their fast, efficient service, they keep the line moving, and almost always completely in their own parking lot.
Difficult to park at the one in WC. All the spots are blocked by the neverending line, so you can’t get in and can’t get out!
The WC parking lot is a mess. I always park and get out, the drive thru takes forever.
I think a Claim Jumper would be perfect at that location.
Ever seen the traffic that this generates in Walnut Creek? This would be utter chaos. Think something else there.

It took me over 30 minutes to drive from Market St, Concord and get to The Lazy Dog restaurant which is in the Willows Shopping Center at around 6pm last night. I could have walked it much faster!
Put a Chevy’s there.
