A Spare the Air Alert is in effect, Monday, Dec. 19, for the San Francisco Bay Area.
It is illegal for Bay Area residents and businesses to burn wood or manufactured firelogs in fireplaces, woodstoves and inserts, pellet stoves, outdoor fire pits, or any other wood burning devices.
Concentrations of particulate matter pollution are forecast to be unhealthy. High levels of particulate matter pollution are harmful to breathe, especially for young children, seniors and those with respiratory and heart conditions. Protect your health by staying indoors and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.
This AirAlert is provided by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

So if you stay inside, how does the limited smoke from my fireplace impact you? This agency says stay inside … limit outdoor activities … so if you stay inside, you will not see/smell my smoke. Problem solved!

A little smoke in the air is nothing compared to the Cemex dust falling down on us every day. What is BAAQMD doing about that? Apparently nothing because a layer of dust from Cemex is covering everything for a solid mile around their Mitchell Canyon facility. It’s even settling in the house all over everything, Seems they’re saving money by not practicing dust control in this inflationary economy. And, really, what does an internationally owned company located out of the country care about a few local residents? The City of Clayton should be ashamed of itself for allowing this to continue.
Who cares what they say. I won’t have my life controlled by people appointed to a corrupt government board. I’ll keep my home and family warm anyway I want. I am getting so tired of people on these boards always using children and old people to push their government controls on our lives. Live free.
My former home in Clayton (on Dana Ridge by the quarry) was the dustiest place I ever lived.
Dr. Jellyfinger, I believe it. Mitchell Canyon is getting it really bad this dry year. Somehow the stuff is getting sucked into the house, maybe negative air pressure sucking it down the indoor BBQ, and everything is covered in a layer of dust. I have to dust everyday to keep it under control. It’s starting to look like the beach in here. Well, maybe not exactly, but it’s bad.
I thought CA is freedom of choice state as promoted by the governor during the elections. HIs tag line, right to choose. I choose to use my fireplace on this cold and damp day. Democrats are such hypocrites.

As everyone knows because we have looked at the data is that 85-90% of winter PM 2.5 comes from sources other than people heating their homes with wood.
Airplanes, trains (diesel fueled), ships and automobiles should not be used today. Why just fires? Look around your neighborhood or when driving the freeway. How many homes have fires on a non-Spare the air day? Not many. BAAQMD is a sham. Fires are illegal? Who wrote that law?
But what they aren’t telling us is why Lord Broadbent left so suddenly . All very hush hush doncha know? Maybe someone could file a public records act request for emails re his departure. i would, but i’m too lazy.
The PG&E bill arrived today, and it’s a new record as they promised. The good news is we have a bunch of old fine furniture the donation places won’t take. We live in a disposable society, so……..
Up the chimney they go! Oak and mahogany burn nicely especially after drying for 50 years or so.
