The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a scam involving phone calls from someone claiming to be from their office.
“The Sheriff’s Office does not have people pay fines or fees through reloadable prepaid cards. Nor are citizens ever contacted in this way. The Sheriff’s Office would like to warn people about this scam which has multiple versions. Scammers have also had listeners make payment over the phone through reloadable prepaid cards that could be purchased at a local store.”
Authorities say many people have already been taken by the scam and anyone getting such a call should refuse to provide any personal information to the caller or simply hang up.
Please contact your local law enforcement agency and notify them of the incident to see if a report could be taken.
I always tell them to come get me.
I usually tell them that they can come and collect and that I have my friends Colt, Smith & Wesson hanging out with Mr Remington that would like to be included in the round up.
How many unknown callers or spam phone calls do you get per day? I get several.
Never give out your phone number or e-mail address to anybody you don’t know and trust. I see store clerks asking for phone numbers, and people just give it to them. The numbers go into a database, then sold to unscrupulous scammers.
I usually tell them “Sorry, I don’t do this over the phone.”
Another reason not to have a land line and to leave cell phone powered down.
my 2 cans and a string work just fine, what are you talking about???
Goes to voicemail here if they leave a message but many don’t and the carrier says it’s a “Scam”.
I told my mom that whenever she gets a call “from the bank” or “from a kidnapper” or “from the Sheriff” to hang up immediately and call the bank, or the kidnapped person, or the Sheriff to confirm. *fingers crossed*
Email the FCC and put your Phone number on the do not call registry. I did, They said it takes 31 days to start working. Its been 45 days and I still get 10 a day. Ronald had it right . The top 9 most terrifying words in the English Language are: I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.”

Really?
.
It’s mind boggling that people are so gullible.

It pays to be cynical.
