A person was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound near a house in Concord that appears to have intentionally been set on fire Thursday evening, police said.

Concord police and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded around 5:45 p.m. to a residential fire reported in the 3500 block of Euclid Avenue.

While extinguishing the fire, crews found the person dead nearby from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as well as a firearm, and investigators determined the fire was intentionally set by the person who died, according to police.

The case remains under investigation by Concord police and the fire district, and the person who died had not yet been identified by the county coroner’s office as of Friday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Concord police tip line at (925) 603-5836.
