We’ve been going to Melo’s for at least 25 years. As it happens, we went there for lunch today, our first visit there this year.

When we moved to this part of the Bay Area in the 80’s we would eat there and CC Ole’s often. How is it now? I haven’t been for at least 10 years

Loved Melo’s when in its old small location in P Hill, it was good for sev. years when the son took it over and it moved to its new and now present location. Went a few times in the last 5 yrs and just not as good, burnt crust and slow servers.
Bad crust kills a pizza for me.
For big chewy crust it was Melo’s, thin crispy crust it was Pinky’s, something in between it was Freddie’s

Loved CC Ole’s too, pitcher after pitcher of frozen margs!

My favorite pizza was from Sham’s in Pacheco, after they closed I started going to the old Melo’s with the dusty plastic grape vines and bunches of grapes next to Hogan’s. I believe there was some kind of family relationship between Sham’s and Melo’s. I was in a bad motorcycle accident in ’81 and in a Sacramento hospital for a month and a half. I lived on Melo’s pizza for that time. I would have family and friends that came and visited me pick up a couple of large Melo’s combos and lived off those for the duration. So I think the pizzas have some kind of restorative healing properties, maybe it was just the morphine drip I was on.

Sham’s was excellent! It was owned and operated by the brother/owner of Bella Roma Pizza in Martinez.

@Cautiously Informed….Ahhh, OK
I thought I might have been mistaken. Melo’s had some kind of family relation to another pizza joint I thought, maybe 4 Corners Pizza or ????

It has gone downhill due to a poor cook, jhigh school servers and cutbacks….holding on to food way too long!

I remember the old 415 area code, then 510, now 925.
I had to throw out all my 415 business cards and re-order them.
And I do love Melo’s (also their sibling, DeVino’s).

DeVino’s gets our business, hands down. Great pizza and great meals.

In the 1970s and early 1980s there was a pizza place I really liked in the same location where DeVino’s Pizza is now. The name may well have been DeVino’s back then.

Coming to Walnut Creek in the former Bierhaus space (Locust St.)

Speaking as someone who has lived in the claycord area for 50+ years:
Melos PH was at one time absolutely the best pizza around. I remember their original location on CC Blvd. going back to the 70s. It was a tiny narrow place, that did mostly takeout.
Their current bigger location was good for many years. However, recently they
have gone way downhill. The have definitely cut corners quality wise, their menu is deceptive, and their current manager is an unprofessional pompous jerk.
