ConFire is responding to a vegetation fire in the general area of Ygnacio Valley Rd. and Cowell Rd., in Concord.
Update: Now a mutual aid incident, with Calfire. Two acres, mixed fuels, moderate slope, moderate spread. The incident commander has called for law enforcement to close Ygnacio Valley Rd.
Update: The main body of the fire has been knocked down. The incident commander has, however, called for a water tender to respond to the scene, “Code 3”.
Update: Full containment called at 11:29pm. Crews will be switching over to mop up operations.
Claycord note: The first 911 call regarding this incident, was from a citizen watching from a distance, who wasn’t sure what they were seeing. They then used binoculars to confirm their suspicions and then called it in, right away. This is a great example of being alert, aware and taking action.
Thank you for being a great citizen and THANK YOU fire department!
Thank you to the alert citizen who called this fire in and thank you Contra Costa Fire department for being so thorough. It could have been much worse if not for your diligence.
I live a few doors down from S. Larwin near the Ayers entrance to Walnut Country. I smelled smoke and heard sirens. People in Walnut Country posted info on our Meta page, including info posted on claycord.com. A woman copied and pasted claycord for me. I looked at claycord before and after she reposted. For some reason, my own claycord wasn’t updated. Frustrating.
Thanks to the alert citizen and first responders! Cause? There was another fire in this area recently – homeless are camped out in the area… anybody checking on possible connections? …. probably not 🙁
