Gov. Gavin Newsom declared Sunday as Patriot Day in California, to remember the 9/11 attacks that occurred 21 years ago.
Newsom ordered all flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff to pay respects to the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the service members “who answered our nation’s call in the aftermath of the attacks,” said Newsom in the proclamation.
“We will never forget their sacrifices to protect our cherished freedoms and way of life,” Newsom wrote.
The State of California has honored the 9/11 anniversary as Patriot Day every year to commemorate the first responders and people from all walks of life who stepped forward to help fellow Americans.
“Let us pay tribute to the American heroes we’ve lost and recommit to the values of equality, opportunity and freedom our nation stands for,” said Newsom.

Patriot’s Day should be a Federal holiday vs. many of the other radicalized holidays we now recognize in this ridiculous state.
This governor has no idea what a patriot is. A patriot is an individual that stands for his fellow man (right or wrong) “talks about wrong later” cares for his fellow man regardless of opinion. Does not waver when the money is not there and stands for what is right and fair. This man has none of the characteristics of patriots. shame.

Seems Biden and Newsom may be having a passive-aggressive behind the scenes fight for the Dem presidential nomination? Newsom visited the White House in July while Biden was not there. Newsom won’t sign the recently passed farmer worker bill and now Biden is publicly supporting it. Now here is Newsom stealing a federal model.
Yes, it looks like Governor Gavin Newsom is positioning himself for a 2024 presidential run, along with Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Governor Jared Polis of Colorado (who seems to have replaced Pete Buttigieg as the favored openly gay candidate).
The question is if Governor Newsom does challenge President Biden can he perform better than Governor Reagan did against President Ford in 1976, better than Senator Kennedy did against President Carter in 1980, better than Pat Buchanan against President GHW Bush in 1992, or better than Governor Weld did against President Trump in 2020, or will a run by Governor Newsom mortally wound an unpopular President Biden.

September 11, 2022 was the 20th “Patriot Day” under federal law, just as each December 7th, for about the last 30 years, has been and is “Remembrance Day” under federal law.

Yesterday Fox showed a documentary about Gander, Newfoundland on 9/11. Thirty seven jets from Europe landed at Gander because our airspace was closed. Gander has a population of about 9,000 and the airplanes brought in about 7,000 people. The people of Gander loved having the guests and everyone started cooking to feed the visitors. Donated homes, blankets and pillows. The airplanes were stuck there for five days and when they left the people of Gander felt lonely. What an amazing story.
