The city of Concord will keep its open spaces closed through Thursday.
Contra Costa County is under an excessive heat warning as temperatures are expected to exceed 100 degrees much of this week, creating dangerous conditions.
At the recommendation of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the city will keep open space areas — including Lime Ridge Open Space and the open space areas within Newhall Community Park — through Thursday.
The city said hot temperatures will increase the risk of fire danger and create health risks for people.
Closing open spaces will protect the public and preserve firefighting resources.
Fire officials said nearly all fires are caused by human activity and are preventable, and asked people to use extreme caution when outdoors to prevent inadvertent wildfires.
I despise anyone telling me that I couldn’t possibly understand how hot it is, therefore we are doing this for your safety.

Thought the hills were closed in-between Treat Blvd and Ygnacio Valley Rd, however I saw four people walking in the hills this morning. Passed by one of the gates and was able to open it. So tmrw I will be going in the hills to get my hike on. It also doesn’t make sense that people can’t go walking but cars going up or down Treat Blvd and YVR can back fire and start a fire or throw out a cigarette and start a fire but it’s closed to those who want to bravely hike in this heat.

For all of you fools who decide to defy the closed open spaces due to extreme fire danger remember this…..if a fire gets going where you happen to be hiking you would be putting firefighters and precious resources at risk rescuing your sorry selves.

Since it’s open space l suppose no one will keep you from going there for a walk or hike, however l read one statement that said if there’s a fire or emergency we might not be able to rescue you. So go ahead enjoy being outdoors in over 100 degrees. Also someone posted if there’s a fire one
could just walk away. Do you realize how fast a fire spread in these dry hot conditions and if there is wind how unpredictable a fire can be?
James perhaps you should take that up with the fire representative that put that information out on the news a few days ago. Be sure to wave your arms high to get the rescuers attention as you trip running down the hill breaking your ankle fleeing the flames.

Fires just randomly break out next to someone able bodied and they will need to run,faulter,and waste the time of rescue as they cant get out of a deadly a situation but can stand up fine and”wave their arms”
